YouTube sleep channels earn $8–15 RPM. The bottleneck isn't the audience — it's production. Most creators pay $50–200/month for audio tools or spend hours in DAWs.
I automated the entire pipeline in Python. Here's how it works.
What We're Building
A CLI that generates any sleep audio type on demand:

All output is WAV → converted to MP3 via ffmpeg. A 1-hour track takes about 8 seconds to generate on a MacBook M2.
The Science (Brief)
Brown noise is pink noise integrated over time — dominated by low frequencies, sounds like a waterfall or strong wind. Preferred over white noise for sleep because it's less harsh.
Binaural beats work by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear. The brain perceives the difference as a rhythmic pulse:
- Left ear: 200 Hz
- Right ear: 206 Hz
- Brain perceives: 6 Hz (theta range)
Theta (4–8 Hz) is associated with meditation and the hypnagogic state just before sleep. Delta (0.5–4 Hz) is deep sleep.
Binaural beats require headphones to work properly. Worth noting in video descriptions.

Cumulative sum of white noise produces brown noise. The normalization step prevents clipping.

The left channel plays 200 Hz, right plays 206 Hz. The 6 Hz difference is what the brain locks onto.

A 1-hour WAV at 44.1kHz stereo is ~600MB. The MP3 at quality 2 is ~50MB — much more manageable for storage and upload.
Overnight Generation Loop
I run this via launchd (macOS) every night at 2 AM:

10-hour tracks for sleep content. Generates 5 tracks overnight, each takes ~80 seconds. Done by 2:10 AM.
What's Next: Video Pipeline
Audio alone isn't enough for YouTube long-form. The full pipeline:
- Audio — this script generates the track
- Visuals — Remotion renders looping cosmic / nature / abstract visuals
- Assembly — ffmpeg muxes audio + video into a 10-hour MP4
- Upload — YouTube Data API v3 handles the rest
The visual component is the only part that still requires some creative work. Everything else runs hands-free.
