Explain how biometrics are collected i'm like just born.

So I was wondering...

Biometrics is secure because nobody can guess it. So how do they map it out and encrypt it?

Also, the fingerprint sensor is a piece of metal so how do they sense it?

For technology overview of fingerprint readers:
bayometric.com/fingerprint-reader-...

You can usually tell as capacitive readers are a thin strip you pull your finger across, optical ones are a small square or circle you place your finger on.
