Agentic AI Is Eating Software Jobs (And Why That Chart Everyone’s Sharing Is Actually Wrong)

those circular agentic ai diagrams everyone shares on linkedin look impressive but they don't tell you how any of this actually works in production. meanwhile klarna deployed an agent that replaced seven hundred customer service workers, shopify's sidekick orchestrates database queries autonomously, and github copilot workspace handles entire features without developers writing code. the technology behind this is simpler than the buzzwords suggest but the engineering challenges to make it reliable at scale are genuinely hard. error handling, observability, cost management, latency optimization, none of that shows up in the pretty diagrams but it's what separates proof of concepts from production systems.
