Artisan Copy Studio: A Local AI Sales Copy Generator for Small Businesses

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Submission 💸

Small business owners and artisans often need product descriptions for different platforms, but writing them from scratch takes time.

For the Side Hustle challenge, I built Artisan Copy Studio, a small AI-powered application that turns rough product notes into sales copy for platforms like Instagram, Etsy, WhatsApp, and Facebook Marketplace.

What does it do?

Users enter basic product details and choose their preferred platform, tone, language, and length. The application generates sales copy that they can review, edit, and use for their product listings.

Features

  • Generate product descriptions from simple notes
  • Platform-specific copy for different selling channels
  • Multiple tones, including warm, professional, minimalist, playful, and luxury
  • English, Hindi, and Hinglish output
  • Adjustable output length
  • Download generated copy as a text file

Tech stack

  • Python
  • Streamlit
  • Ollama
  • Gemma 3 1B

Why local, open-weight AI?

One of the main reasons I chose this approach was to experiment with running an AI model locally rather than depending on a paid cloud AI API.

With Ollama and Gemma 3 1B, generation runs on the user's own computer. This can help keep product notes private and avoid per-request API charges. Once the model is downloaded, the application can generate copy without needing to send prompts to a cloud AI provider.

It also gave me a chance to explore how open-weight models can be used to build practical tools on everyday hardware.

What did I learn?

Building this project taught me that getting an AI model to generate text is only one part of the work. The output also needs to be useful and reliable.

The model can occasionally produce inaccurate product claims or price details, so generated content should be checked before publishing. Improving this validation is one of the areas I would like to work on next.

What's next?

Some improvements I would like to explore include stronger price validation, better control over unsupported product claims, and more reliable platform-specific formatting.

I'd also like to get feedback from actual small business owners and understand which features would save them the most time.

The project currently runs locally and requires Python, Ollama, and the gemma3:1b model.

If you're an artisan, freelancer, or small business owner, I'd appreciate your feedback: Would a tool like this be useful to you? What would you want it to do better?
