All MacBooks get hot. I’ve a 16 inch: I think it’s related to the aluminium chassis. You can reduce this disabling the Turbo Boost.
How much ram do you have vs utilize?
I usually have VSC and Safari running

I don’t know exactly. Usually I’m running some Docker containers, VSC, Chrome, DBeaver in a dual-monitor setup (both at 2k resolution and the integrated one is not used). Mine it’s the base 16” with 6-core i7 and 16gb of ram.
