Nobody Would Interview Me, So I Built the Interview Myself

What do you do when the press won't cover you, the blogs won't answer, and you're sitting on the most honest conversation of your career with nobody to have it with?

I decided to interview myself.

I'm YOVANNI. I'm an independent singer-songwriter releasing music on my own label, Modern Citizen Music. My new single is "Signal Interrupted," a song about refusing to disappear while everyone watches and waits for you to go off the air. I had things to say about it. Real things. About creativity, about technology, about what it means to be a human artist in a digital world.

So I built the interview I wasn't getting invited to.

The build

I made it myself: a 4-minute-23-second sit-down where I answer the questions nobody was asking, posed by an AI host I call Echo. Then I cut it into eight short vertical clips, each one built around a single quote, each one pointing back to the full conversation.

No crew. No studio booking. No waiting for permission.

I'm not going to pretend it was effortless. It took a full evening of building, cutting, re-cutting, and checking every frame against my own likeness standards (I've learned the hard way that generated media will happily give you someone else's face if you stop watching). But it cost me nothing except time, and it exists in the world now, which is more than I could say for the interview I was waiting for someone else to offer.

What I'd tell another indie artist

1. Stop waiting to be chosen. The gatekeepers are not coming back. The tools to make a professional-looking interview, music video, or press kit are sitting on your phone.
2. Be your own fan first. I mean that literally now. My operating line this month is: be your own fan, your own cheerleader, your own interviewer, your own everything.
3. One long thing, many short things. The full interview is the anchor. The eight clips are the distribution. Make the anchor once, then cut it to pieces for every platform.
4. Keep the human in the loop on every frame. If your name, your face, or your story is on it, verify it yourself. My rule: I approve the exact final cut, every time, before anything goes public.
