I Dropped My Price to $1 — Not Because I'm Desperate, But Because I Need the Truth

39 days ago I launched postWRITER with a $39/3-year founder deal. First 30 customers, then $9/month. Sounded reasonable. Classic playbooks all say "charge real money early."

Yesterday I checked the numbers: zero sales.

Here's the embarrassing part — when I went to figure out why, I discovered my checkout wasn't even wired up. The button pointed to an empty anchor. For 39 days, nobody could have paid me if they wanted to. (If you're building solo: go check your checkout right now. I'll wait.)

So I'm doing two things this week:

1. Actually wiring up payments. Paddle, $1, limited to 30 seats.

2. Dropping the founder price from $39 to $1.

Not out of panic. Here's the logic:

At $39 with zero customers, I learn nothing. Was the price wrong? The landing page? The product? The channel? Too many variables, zero signal.

At $1, the question becomes clean: will anyone bother to pull out their card at all? A dollar is nothing, but entering payment details is still friction. Anyone who does it has real intent. That's the minimum viable signal of "someone wants this."

The 30-seat cap keeps it honest — it's a founder batch, not a fire sale. After that, $9/month.

What the tool does

You send one video (upload or a link). You get back a publish-ready YouTube description, chapters in YouTube's exact 0:00 spec, SRT captions, and social copy. The part I'm proudest of: the speech recognizer adapts to your accent — correct a word once and it stays corrected in every future video. Most AI tools make the same mistakes forever.

What I'll report back

  • Whether the 30 $1 seats fill, and how fast
  • Where those users come from (I'll ask every single one)
  • Whether any of them convert to $9/month when the 3 months end

Whether it works or flops, I'll post the numbers. That's the whole point of pricing like this — you get truth instead of silence.

If you make videos and want to be one of the 30: postwriter.cn. If you just want to watch the experiment, that's fine too — follow for the update post.
