Why a unified, crypto-native gateway?
If you've ever wired up more than one LLM provider, you already know the pain: a different SDK per vendor, a different auth scheme, a different billing cycle — and, for a lot of us, a credit card that either doesn't work internationally or we'd rather not hand over.
taotok.io is a unified LLM API gateway. One API key, one OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and you can call GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen, and Kimi K2 by simply changing the model field. Top-ups are settled in USDT and other crypto — no card, no region lock.
It's built for:
- Web3 developers who already live in crypto rails
- International users without a working credit card
- Privacy-conscious indie developers who'd rather not spread card details across five providers
Available worldwide, excluding mainland China.
Let's go from zero to your first API call.
Step 1 — Get your key (no card required)
- Create an account on taotok.io
- Top up your quota with USDT (or other supported crypto)
- Copy your API key and export it as an environment variable
export TAOTOK_API_KEY="sk-..."
Grab the exact model slugs and endpoint details from the docs: https://api.taotok.io/go/devto10.html
Step 2 — Your first call: Claude
The endpoint is OpenAI-compatible, so if you've used the OpenAI SDK, this will look familiar. Here's a minimal Python example that calls Claude:
import os
import requests
API_KEY = os.environ["TAOTOK_API_KEY"]
BASE = "https://api.taotok.io/v1"
def chat(model, messages):
resp = requests.post(
f"{BASE}/chat/completions",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {API_KEY}"},
json={"model": model, "messages": messages},
timeout=30,
)
resp.raise_for_status()
return resp.json()["choices"][0]["message"]["content"]
claude_reply = chat(
"claude-3-5-sonnet",
[{"role": "user", "content": "Explain crypto-native payments in one sentence."}],
)
print(claude_reply)
Prefer raw HTTP? It's the same shape as the OpenAI API:
curl https://api.taotok.io/v1/chat/completions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TAOTOK_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model":"claude-3-5-sonnet","messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Explain crypto-native payments in one sentence."}]}'
That's it — same endpoint, just a different model string.
Step 3 — Route to DeepSeek for the cheap, high-volume work
Now the whole point of a unified gateway: send the heavy, high-volume prompts to a cheaper model without touching your integration.
deepseek_reply = chat(
"deepseek-chat",
[{"role": "user", "content": "Summarize this support ticket in 3 bullet points: ..."}],
)
print(deepseek_reply)
You just called two different vendors through one key and one code path.
Step 4 — Add basic error handling
Production code needs retries and clear failures. Here's the same helper with bounded retries and a 429 backoff:
import os
import time
import requests
API_KEY = os.environ["TAOTOK_API_KEY"]
BASE = "https://api.taotok.io/v1"
def chat(model, messages, retries=3):
for attempt in range(retries):
try:
resp = requests.post(
f"{BASE}/chat/completions",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {API_KEY}"},
json={"model": model, "messages": messages},
timeout=30,
)
if resp.status_code == 429:
time.sleep(2 ** attempt) # exponential backoff
continue
resp.raise_for_status()
return resp.json()["choices"][0]["message"]["content"]
except requests.HTTPError as e:
print(f"HTTP {e.response.status_code}: {e.response.text}")
break
except requests.RequestException as e:
print(f"Network error: {e}")
time.sleep(2 ** attempt)
return None

One key, every model, paid the way you already pay. Give it a try.
