I built 7 Android apps solo. Google Play wants 12 strangers to test each one for 14 days.

I'm a school teacher from Narowal, Pakistan. For the last two months, between classes and after midnight, I've been building Android apps solo: a PDF chat app, a yoga & journaling app, an exam-prep app, a video editor, an expense tracker, a selfie camera, and a stories app. Seven apps, all free.

Then I hit Google Play's wall for new developer accounts: 12+ real testers, opted in continuously for 14 days, per app — before any of them can go to production. No shortcuts. Google checks engagement too, not just installs: testers who never open the app get flagged.

Where things stand today (7 Nov): AI PDF Doctor has 2 testers opted in and needs 10 more; the other six apps are still at 0. Here's what actually worked to get my first testers:

1. Your own audience converts 10x better than cold posts. A single Instagram post outperformed every directory I tried. If you have any audience at all — YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn — start there.

2. Recruit 18–20 for a 12-tester requirement. About 20–30% drop out in the first 3 days. A dip below 12 breaks the 14-day window and you start over.

3. Test-for-test communities are the real engine. Subreddits like r/AndroidClosedTesting, and free exchange platforms (Testers Community, IndieAppCircle, App Circle, LaunchSignal) — you test other devs' apps, they test yours. Real devices, real sessions.

4. Make staying easy. One page with every opt-in link beats seven scattered links. Mine: https://zohaib-portfolio-1st.pages.dev/app-testers/ — one tap per app.

5. Give testers a reason to stay that isn't a review. Google forbids incentivizing ratings/reviews — instant account risk. What works: lifetime premium unlocks, name in the credits, public thank-yous. Never tie anything to a star rating.

The 7 apps

Tap any link, hit Become a tester, install from the Play Store:

I still need more testers to clear the gate on all 7 apps. If you're an Android dev reading this, I'll test your app back for the full 14 days — test-for-test, real daily use, real feedback:

First 20 testers get lifetime premium on everything + credits mention. Drop your app's link in the comments and I'll return the favor today.
