Dance studios usually ask for a photo of your child — or of yourself — when you register for classes, and many registration portals only accept JPG uploads. iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, so a perfectly good headshot can be refused with a vague "invalid file type" message, right when a class is about to fill up.
- Keep the HEIC original
Do not overwrite your original. Convert a copy for the registration and keep the HEIC master, in case the studio later asks for a clearer photo or a different crop.
- Do not just rename it to .jpg
Renaming changes the extension, not the contents. The file will still be HEIC data, and the portal will still reject it. The photo has to be genuinely converted to JPG.
- Convert a copy to JPG for the registration
If you need a JPG quickly, you can convert HEIC photos to JPG for dance studio registrations entirely in the browser: the conversion happens on your own device, nothing is uploaded, and no account is needed. Then check the JPG preview before submitting — confirm the dancer's face is clearly visible, the photo is the right way up, and it is not cropped too tight.
That is the whole fix: a real JPG, made from a copy, checked once before you hit submit. No app to install, no account to create, and your photos never leave your device.
