Most 300-415 ENSDWI troubleshooting questions come down to one thing: which step of the bring-up failed. If you know the order the fabric comes up in, and the command that proves each step, you can answer them quickly.
What order does a WAN Edge come up in?
A WAN Edge talks to the SD-WAN Validator first, then builds control connections to the SD-WAN Manager and SD-WAN Controllers, then learns routes and TLOCs over OMP, and only then brings up BFD sessions to other Edges. Traffic policy comes last.
If a step fails, everything after it fails too. So troubleshoot from the top down.
Which commands prove each step?
Run these on an IOS XE Catalyst SD-WAN Edge:
| Step | Command | What you want to see |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | show sdwan control local-properties |
System IP, site ID, organization name and a valid certificate |
| Control connections | show sdwan control connections |
Validator, Manager and Controller peers in the up state |
| Failed attempts | show sdwan control connection-history |
The error code for any connection that did not come up |
| OMP peering | show sdwan omp peers |
Each Controller listed as a peer and up |
| Routes | show sdwan omp routes |
Prefixes received from the Controller, with their TLOCs |
| TLOCs | show sdwan omp tlocs |
Remote TLOCs learned, with color and encapsulation |
| Data plane | show sdwan bfd sessions |
BFD sessions up to remote Edges on each color |
| Policy | show sdwan policy from-vsmart |
The centralized policy the Controller pushed |
What should you practice in the lab?
Break one thing at a time and watch which command changes first. Mismatch the organization name, block the Validator, or remove a color from a TLOC. Then read connection-history or the BFD table and find the cause.
Controller deployment (15%) and Router Deployment (20%) are where these commands earn their keep, so map each lab break to its objective in the 300-415 ENSDWI exam topics list and tick it off as you go.
Once the bring-up order feels automatic, test yourself on scenarios where you only get the symptom. These 300-415 troubleshooting-style practice questions are a quick way to see if you can name the failed step without a lab in front of you.
Frequently asked questions
Which command shows why a control connection failed?
show sdwan control connection-history. It lists recent attempts with an error code, which usually points to a certificate, organization-name or reachability problem.
Do BFD sessions come up before OMP?
No. The Edge needs OMP to learn remote TLOCs first. BFD sessions then form to those TLOCs.
Are these commands on the 300-415 exam?
The exam asks you to configure and troubleshoot control and data plane connectivity, so knowing what these commands show is directly useful. Cisco does not publish a command list.
