Introduction
As a Software Engineering student, I was spending 6-7 hours daily just writing boilerplate code, debugging, and searching on Stack Overflow. Last month I tested 15+ AI tools. Most of them were useless. But 5 of them actually saved me 3 hours every day. Here are those 5 tools I use daily.
- GitHub Copilot - Your AI Pair Programmer
This is not just autocomplete. It writes whole functions for you. I was building a REST API in Node.js and Copilot wrote my entire CRUD logic just from a comment // create user login with JWT. Best for: JavaScript, Python, MERN stack developers.
Price: Free for students (with GitHub Student Pack).
- ChatGPT-4o for Debugging I stopped pasting errors on Stack Overflow. Now I paste my error directly into ChatGPT. Example: I had a CORS error in React that I couldn't fix for 2 hours. ChatGPT fixed it in 20 seconds with one line of code.
Pro Tip: Always paste your full error + your code. Don't just say "fix my code".
Vercel v0.dev - For Frontend in Seconds
If you hate writing CSS, this tool is for you. You just write "Create a modern pricing table with Tailwind" and it gives you ready-to-use React code. I built my portfolio landing page in 15 minutes using v0.Best for: React / Next.js developers.Tabnine - The Privacy-Friendly Alternative
Many of my friends don't want to send their code to GitHub. For them, Tabnine is best. It works offline and doesn't send your code to any server. It's fast and perfect for university projects where privacy matters.Codeium - The Best 100% Free Tool
This is completely free forever, unlike Copilot. It has the same features - autocomplete, chat, search. If you are a student with zero budget, start with Codeium.
My Daily Workflow With These Tools
Morning: I use Copilot to write new features.
Afternoon: I use ChatGPT to debug errors.
Evening: I use v0.dev to build UI quickly. This workflow saves me at least 3 hours daily.
Final Verdict
You don't need 15 tools. Just start with 2: GitHub Copilot (for coding) + ChatGPT (for debugging).Once you are comfortable, add the other 3.Which AI tool do you use the most?
