Develop in Human Language, Let IBM Bob Handle the Code

One of the most interesting shifts happening in software development is that developers are spending less time translating ideas into syntax and more time focusing on the problem they want to solve.

That's where Literate Coding in IBM Bob comes in.

Instead of constantly jumping between chat windows, documentation, search results, and your editor, you can describe your intent in natural language and work directly within your development environment. The focus shifts from how to write the code to what you want the software to do.

For example, you can explain a feature, describe a bug, outline a refactoring task, or request a new API endpoint in plain English. IBM Bob uses the surrounding project context to help generate and implement the appropriate changes.

What I like about this approach is that it keeps developers in flow. Less context switching means more time spent designing solutions, reviewing architecture decisions, improving quality, and delivering value.

AI isn't replacing engineering fundamentals, but it is changing how we interact with our tools. Being able to communicate intent naturally while the IDE handles much of the implementation work feels like a glimpse into the future of software development.

The best programming language might just be human language.
