I don’t feel that one AI will always give the best answer. That’s why I always find myself shuffling through the tabs. I try to find a better reply by comparing different models. It is one of the reasons I wanted multiple AI models in one Chrome sidebar.
Also, for the writing tasks like creating documentation, I try to do the research with Perplexity, develop the outline with ChatGPT, and write the content with Claude.
It makes more sense to me as I want my piece to be better. But switching between tabs was really exhausting. That’s when I started looking for AI Chrome extensions.
The AI browser extensions not only gave me the opportunity to work with different models. But I can also now compare different results without changing tabs. It saved me more time than ever. I can now do my writing tasks in less time with more effectiveness.
What Is BYOK for AI Chrome Extensions?
BYOK stands for “Bring Your Own API Key”. The idea is to connect your own API keys and use the AI models you want. You get the API key from the AI provider and connect it with the AI Chrome extension. It gives you so much freedom to work with.

The AI extension already has GPT4.0, Claude Sonnet, Gemini, DeepSeek, and other models. So, it is really convenient for me. Another thing with that, ChatHub has smart web access.
So, it searches through the web in real time and gives me the answers. The AI extension supports Markdown and code highlighting to improve readability.
The ChatHub AI extension also has a prompt library as well. It makes your search experience better and improves efficiency.
Another of the closest matches to my Claude Chrome extension is Aymo AI. It brings together all the leading AI providers and the latest models. So, it is more convenient. Even with that, Aymo AI offers BYOK support.
I have used Aymo AI for my different tasks, not just writing. I have used the Chrome sidebar to search on the web. And it gave me real-time search answers.
Also, my team used Aymo AI to debug code, search in PDFs, and many other things. Not to mention, it worked to our expectations.
As a result of the BYOK support, I have full control over the tokens. I paid for what I used only. Most importantly, I have compared my answers with different providers without changing the tab. They also have a prompt library to save your time.

How to Set Up BYOK Chrome Extension
In this section, I will show you how to set up your BYOK for the AI Chrome extension. If you are a beginner like me, you might be a little anxious too. I was, too. But trust me, it is a very simple process.
Here are the steps you need to follow. I will be using Aymo for now.
- Download the Chrome Extension
First, you have to download the chrome extension (Lets consider you installed Aymo AI). You will find it easily in Google.
Just click on “Add to Chrome” or any other browser you are using.
It will get downloaded in a matter of seconds. It will be connected to your Aymo AI account. You can use the extension with the paid monthly plans, including all the AI models.
- Add Your API Key
Next, add the API keys. Aymo supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, Perplexity, Grok(xAI), and Novita AI as providers. You will need to find the account settings in the Chrome Sidebar. It will be in the top left corner of the sidebar.
You need to click once and select “Settings”. It will take you to the profile section. There will be the “Add your Key(s)” option. Now you will have to paste the API key and click “Save and Enable”.

- Start Using the Model
Once you have connected your AI models, you can start using the models. You can now pay only for the tokens you have used.
I Gave Claude, GPT, and Gemini the Same Writing Prompt
Let me show you something. After I set up the API keys, I gave the same prompt to different AI models I added. I have given the prompt to GPT, Claude, and Gemini. Here’s the prompt I gave:
Prompt: Write a 150-word introduction for an article about AI Chrome extensions. Keep the tone conversational, simple, and engaging.
Claude’s Answer
Claude gave me a very natural and conversational answer. It focused on how the AI Chrome extension helps and why one should have it. The flow was good and felt less generic. It is something I can use as a starting point.
GPT’s Answer
ChatGPT answered most casually. It gave me the writing in a structured manner. It started with how a ChatGPT Chrome extension helps, and then explained the use cases. It is a good start for a quick draft.
Gemini’s Answer
Gemini gave me the answer in a more descriptive way. It mainly focused on the convenience and how AI Chrome extensions can help in everyday tasks.
Final Words
Using Claude, GPT, and Gemini from one Chrome sidebar doesn't mean I have to choose one AI model and stick with it.
With a BYOK-enabled AI Chrome extension, I can bring different models into the same writing workflow and use them for different purposes. One model can help me brainstorm. Another can build the structure. A third can challenge the ideas.
The biggest benefit isn't simply having more AI models. It's having more perspectives without constantly switching between AI platforms.
