APIC v2 Development Has Begun: A New Desktop Image Editor Is Coming

Description: "Akhouri Systems has started building APIC v2, a desktop image editing tool. Here's the roadmap, the release condition, and how you can shape it by breaking APIC v1."

πŸš€ APIC v2 Development Starts Today β€” 29 October 2026

Short announcement, big news: as of 29 October 2026, the APIC v2 development program is officially initiated. I've started building it.

What is APIC?

APIC (Advanced Image Processing Center) is a free image tool from Akhouri Systems for editing, converting and compressing images. It comes in two forms:

  • 🌐 APIC Web: a free online photo editor that runs entirely in your browser, with on-device AI background removal, no uploads and just signup to export the image. https://akhouri-anmol-kumar.github.io/APIC-web/
  • πŸ–₯️ APIC Desktop v1: a portable Windows app with Edit, Convert, Compress and Search modes, no installer needed.

APIC v2 is the next generation of the desktop version.

What will v2 have?

No spoilers yet. 🀐

I'm not showing a single feature today. But one thing is certain:

APIC v2 is set to be one of the best desktop image editing tools on the planet. 🌎

Akhouri Systems stands behind that. APIC Web is already holding its own against the big names, and APIC Desktop v2 is being built to do the same on the desktop.

When will it release?

The release is tied to the community, not a calendar date:

APIC v2 goes public when Akhouri Systems reaches 2,000 total downloads across all products.

As of 29 October 2026, the total is 1,400. That leaves 600 downloads to go. Every download moves the release date closer.

πŸ› οΈ Help shape v2: break APIC v1

While v2 is in the oven, download APIC v1 and put it through its paces:

πŸ‘‰ Download APIC v1 (APIC.zip)

Then:

  1. Break it. Weird file formats, huge images, odd workflows. Try everything.
  2. Find upgrades. Think of a missing feature, a slow spot or a clunky UX moment.
  3. Tell me in the comments below.

My guarantee: if your suggestion is worthy, and I'll know it when I see it, I will implement it in APIC v2. πŸ’―

Stay tuned

What's the one feature you'd want in a desktop image editor? πŸ‘‡

You’re not alone, brother! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ I’m a Mac user too, and I had exactly the same reaction when I saw there was no macOS version.

Hopefully APIC v2 will change that. We Mac users want to join the fun too! πŸ˜„πŸ‘Š

Great to see APIC v2 officially moving forward, brother! πŸ‘ŠπŸš€

One suggestion from my side: don’t underestimate Linux and macOS support. A genuinely cross-platform, lightweight image editor with reliable batch processing could fill a useful gap.

For v2, I’d particularly love to see batch conversion, metadata preservation controls, and reproducible compression settings. Being able to process hundreds of images consistently without manually repeating the same steps would be a huge advantage.

One small thought about the release strategy: tying the launch to 2,000 downloads is a fun community milestone, but I’d prioritize stability and testing readiness over the download counter.

Keep building, brother. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! πŸ§πŸ‘Š

Yeah bro definitely I would make it cross OS support, also 2k I set because I know to reach it at least more 1 month will be gone and in 1month I can do all tests and development.
