What if AI had been imagined back in 1984?

What if AI had been designed with the simplicity of the original Macintosh?

That question became STANISLAS — The M.A.I.CINTOSH.

AI has become incredibly powerful. But using it can still feel unnecessarily complicated: multiple tools, accounts, dashboards, settings, APIs and increasingly complex interfaces.

I wanted to try something different.

One function. One icon. One click.

STANISLAS takes inspiration from the philosophy of the original Macintosh:

  • one function
  • one icon
  • one click

The goal is not to recreate a Macintosh.

It is to ask what AI might feel like if it had been designed with the same obsession for simplicity.

LOCAL. PRIVATE. NO ACCOUNT. ALL SIMPLE.

STANISLAS is designed around four principles:

LOCAL.

Run AI tools locally whenever possible.

PRIVATE.

Your work should not need to leave your computer unnecessarily.

NO ACCOUNT.

No account should be required just to use a simple tool.

ALL SIMPLE.

No complex interface. No unnecessary setup.

And it is completely free.

Why another AI interface?

There are already hundreds of AI tools.

That is precisely the problem.

Finding the right tool can sometimes be harder than doing the actual task.

STANISLAS takes the opposite approach: instead of starting with a conversation or a dashboard, you start with a function.

Need to translate something? Click the translation icon.

Need to transcribe audio? Click the transcription icon.

Need to work with images? Click the appropriate icon.

The interface should disappear behind the task.

Open source

STANISLAS is an open-source project.

The source code is available on GitHub:

The project is still evolving, and that is one of the reasons I am sharing it now.

I want to see whether this simpler approach to AI makes sense to other people too.

The idea behind M.A.I.CINTOSH

The name is deliberately playful.

M.A.I.CINTOSH

A Macintosh imagined for the age of AI.

Not because computers should look like they did in 1984.

But because some of the ideas from that era still feel relevant:

Make technology understandable.

Make the interface disappear.

Give people one clear action at a time.

That is the experiment behind STANISLAS.

One function. One icon. One click.

LOCAL. PRIVATE. NO ACCOUNT. ALL SIMPLE.
