LUCI, from Memories.ai, is a strong local memory app. It records your screen and meetings, keeps them encrypted on your own disk, blacks out cards, keys and passwords, and runs local models. It is free. If you want local memory, LUCI is a fair choice.

So what is the difference? LUCI is built to hand your memory to other agents, such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. Those agents often run in the cloud. Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD) Pro keeps the memory local and does the follow-up work itself, with a local model and your approval.

Off Grid AI Day view: the journal, timeline and to-dos for the day.

Day in OGAD: a journal, a timeline and the to-dos you picked up, written on the computer.

Four questions to ask any memory app

  1. Capture. What does it save, and when?
  2. Storage. Where does the history live?
  3. Inference. Which model reads it, and where does that model run?
  4. Actions. Can it do work for you, and who approves it?

LUCI and OGAD give the same answer to the first three. The fourth is where they part.

Where the two really differ

Where the memory goes next. LUCI is careful about storage. Its Claude page says "The memory itself stays on your machine." It is also honest about the next step: what an agent pulls joins that conversation, and "If the agent runs in someone else's cloud, that conversation goes there." So your privacy depends on which agent you connect.

OGAD does not need an outside agent to act. It drafts the reply, the issue or the prep note with a local model, and it waits for your yes.

More than recall. OGAD builds a Day view with a journal, a timeline and to-dos, and People pages for each person you work with. God gives you a morning brief, meeting prep and what people owe you. Reflect shows where your time went.

Linux and phones. OGAD runs on Linux, and OGAM runs on iPhone and Android, synced with your computer device to device. LUCI's docs list Mac and Windows.

How OGAD remembers your day

  1. Open Replay and choose Resume capture. The status shows Capturing. Choose Pause capture at any time.
  2. OGAD saves sampled moments from your screen to your disk.
  3. A local vision model reads each moment and writes a short note: the app, the project and the people.
  4. On Windows and Linux you can choose Overnight, so the analysis runs from 03:00 to 08:00 and your computer stays fast by day.

You can exclude apps and delete any moment. See how to delete saved screen activity.

Memory is one part of Pro

  • Meetings. Calls recorded without a bot, transcribed and summarised on your computer.
  • Actions you approve. Replies and issues through Gmail, Linear, Jira and Notion, sent only with your yes.
  • God, your chief of staff. A morning brief, meeting prep and what people owe you.
  • Reflect. Where your day went, by project, app and person.
  • Vault, Clipboard and Sync. Encrypted secrets, a searchable clipboard, and your phone and computer in sync, device to device.

One price, up to 5 devices.

When LUCI is the better pick

LUCI costs nothing, and it has no paid tier. If you write code with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex and want those agents to see what was on your screen, LUCI is built for exactly that. It also records meeting video, gives real-time coaching during calls, and lists custom workflows and Telegram and WhatsApp links in its free plan.

If you want one app that remembers, answers and does the follow-up work on your own computer, including on Linux, use OGAD.

Get started

  1. Download OGAD for Mac, Windows or Linux.
  2. Get Pro and enter your key.
  3. In Models, download a vision model and a text model.
  4. In Replay, choose Resume capture.
  5. Tomorrow, open Day and ask about yesterday.

FAQ

Is LUCI local?
Yes. LUCI's docs say recordings, notes and memory stay on your computer, and it keeps working with the network off. Its home page lists Phi, Qwen, Llama and DeepSeek as local models.

Is LUCI free?
Yes. LUCI's pricing page says it is free forever, with no Pro tier and no paid upgrade.

What happens when LUCI gives my memory to Claude or Codex?
LUCI says what an agent pulls becomes part of that conversation. If the agent runs in someone else's cloud, that conversation goes there. Off Grid AI answers and drafts with local models on your computer.

Does LUCI run on Linux?
LUCI's docs list Mac with Apple silicon and Windows 10 or later. Off Grid AI Desktop runs on Mac (Apple silicon), Windows and Linux.

How much does Off Grid AI cost?
Off Grid AI Desktop is free and open source. On 30 October 2026 Off Grid AI Pro, which adds memory, is $79.99 once for lifetime access, a limited-time price, or $7.99 a month.

Get Off Grid AI Pro and let your local memory do the work.
