ChatGPT Atlas is gone. OpenAI's help center has an Atlas retirement page. It says Atlas "has been retired and no longer receives updates". Your tabs, history and bookmarks do not move by themselves. If you used it, you now need a new home for AI in your browser.

Here is a simpler answer: stop switching browsers. Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD) brings the assistant into the Chrome you already use, through an extension. The model runs on your own computer, so the page you ask about stays on your machine. And if an AI tool goes away, your browser, logins and history stay put.

Checked 30 October 2026 against OpenAI's Atlas retirement page and its Atlas launch post, which now notes that Atlas was deprecated. Off Grid AI's price is a limited-time lifetime offer, down from $119.

What to do with your Atlas data

OpenAI's retirement page covers the steps. In short:

  • Bookmarks. Import a bookmarks HTML file you exported earlier into Chrome.
  • Passwords. Import a password CSV you exported earlier, then delete the CSV. It holds readable passwords.
  • Sessions. Sign in to your websites again in Chrome.
  • Chats. Your ChatGPT conversations are separate from Atlas, and they stay in ChatGPT.

OpenAI also warns that deleting your ChatGPT chats does not delete Atlas browser memories. Use its privacy portal for those.

Off Grid AI can hold your passwords too. The Vault keeps them encrypted on your disk and fills logins in Chrome. See how to fill website logins from your Off Grid AI Vault.

How a browser task runs on your computer

  1. Install the Off Grid AI extension in Chrome and keep OGAD running.
  2. In the extension, open Settings > Desktop and choose Pair with desktop. Check that the six words match, then approve in OGAD.
  3. Ask about the page you have open. Plain chat gets read-only tools, so it reads and answers.
  4. Turn on Agent for a task that needs clicks across pages. It uses the sessions you already have.
  5. When the task wants to send, create or delete something, OGAD shows the action. You approve it or reject it.

The extension refuses one-time codes, card numbers and CAPTCHAs in code. Sign-ins come from your Vault or from you. For a full walk-through, see how to automate tasks in your signed-in browser with local AI.

The browser is one part of Pro

Atlas put ChatGPT in a browser. Off Grid AI Pro covers your whole working day, on your own hardware:

  • Memory. Your screens, meetings, mail and documents become one local memory you can search and ask.
  • Meetings without a bot. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised on your computer.
  • Actions you approve. It drafts replies and issues through Gmail, Linear, Jira and Notion. Nothing goes out without your yes.
  • God, your chief of staff. A morning brief, meeting prep with notes from last time, and the to-dos people owe you.
  • Reflect, Vault, Clipboard and Sync. Where your day went, passwords encrypted on your disk, every copy searchable, and your phone and computer in sync, device to device.

All of it is in the same $79.99, on up to 5 devices.

When ChatGPT is the better pick

If you want OpenAI's largest models, keep using ChatGPT itself. Your conversations are still there. A big cloud model can be stronger than a local one on hard, open-ended work, and it runs on any laptop. OGAD needs a computer that can run a local model. Most Apple silicon Macs and recent PCs can, and the app shows which models fit.

Off Grid AI's extension is on Chrome today. Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox have a waitlist. If your browser holds client, legal or deal pages, keep the model on your own machine.

Switch in ten minutes

  1. Download OGAD for Mac, Windows or Linux.
  2. In Models, download a text model that can use tools. The app shows which fit your computer.
  3. Add the Off Grid AI extension to Chrome and pair it with the desktop.
  4. Ask a question about the page you have open.
  5. Get Pro when you want browser tasks, desktop tools and the Vault.
