Dia, from The Browser Company, is a browser built for the workday. Its home page promises "More than a browser. A better workday." It has a Morning Brief, Ask Dia across your tabs and tools, and meeting prep. The AI work does not stay on your machine, though. Dia's work page says requests go "through our servers to our AI partners".
Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD) gives you the same kind of help without the new browser. The extension works in the Chrome you already use. Your tabs are read by a model on your own computer. And Pro is one payment, not a monthly plan.

What it costs over three years
Dia's free plan is a browser without AI features. Its AI plans are monthly. Better Answers is $10 a month. Better Days is $100 a month, with 20x more usage. Usage is counted in tasks, and extra tasks are sold in $20 credit blocks. Dia says these plans reach new Mac users first; existing and Windows users are not affected yet.

Off Grid AI has no task meter. The model runs on hardware you already own, so a busy day costs the same as a quiet one.
How Off Grid AI reads your tabs on your computer
- Install the Off Grid AI extension in Chrome and keep OGAD running.
- In the extension, open Settings > Desktop and choose Pair with desktop. Check that the six words match, then approve in OGAD.
- Ask about the page you have open. Plain chat gets read-only tools, so it reads and answers.
- Turn on Agent when the work spans several pages. It uses the sessions you are already signed in to.
- When a task wants to send, create or delete something, OGAD shows the action. You approve it or reject it.
The page goes to the model you select in OGAD. Pick a local model and the page stays on your computer. See how to ask AI about private work websites in Chrome.
The browser is one part of Pro
Dia brings your work into the browser. Off Grid AI Pro brings your whole day together on your own hardware:
- Memory. Your screens, meetings, mail and documents become one local memory you can search and ask, with the source for each answer.
- Meetings without a bot. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised on your computer.
- Actions you approve. It drafts replies and issues through Gmail, Linear, Jira and Notion. Nothing goes out without your yes.
- God, your chief of staff. A morning brief, meeting prep with notes from last time, and the to-dos people owe you.
- Reflect, Vault, Clipboard and Sync. Where your day went, passwords encrypted on your disk, every copy searchable, and your phone and computer in sync, device to device.
All of it is in the same $79.99, on up to 5 devices.
When Dia is the better pick
Dia is a polished browser with its own design, tab tools and work features. It connects to Slack, Notion and Teams, and Dia for Work adds SSO and admin tools. Its sync is end-to-end encrypted. It also runs on any laptop, because the AI runs on its partners' servers. OGAD needs a computer that can run a local model. Most Apple silicon Macs and recent PCs can, and the app shows which models fit.
If you like Dia and your company is happy with its AI partners, keep it. If your tabs hold client, legal or deal details, read them with a model on your own machine. Off Grid AI's extension is on Chrome today; Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox have a waitlist.
