MLC Chat showed that an iPhone can run a language model. Its App Store build, 1.6, dates from 27 September 2024, ships one model, and is for non-commercial use. Off Grid AI Mobile (OGAM) shipped 8 releases in October 2026. You pick the model, you can use it at work, and it makes images too.

Checked 29 October 2026 against MLC Chat's App Store listing and Off Grid AI's release notes. "Not listed" means the feature is not on MLC Chat's listing.

Pick the model that fits your iPhone

MLC Chat's current version ships Llama 3.2 3B. OGAM opens a model library sized to your phone. It shows which models fit before you download.

On an iPhone 15 Pro with 8GB of RAM, Qwen 3.5 4B is the sweet spot for quality. On an iPhone 12, Qwen 3.5 0.8B runs fine. Llama, Gemma and Phi are there too, in GGUF, the format most open models ship in.

Use it for your job

MLC Chat's App Store description says it's intended for non-commercial use. That leaves client notes, contracts and other work questions in a grey area.

OGAM is MIT licensed. Use it at work, on your company's documents, with no license question hanging over it. Put a client's brief in a Project, ask what it commits you to, and draft your reply on the phone.

Your iPhone makes images

Type what you want to see. OGAM writes a fuller prompt, then Stable Diffusion draws it on the iPhone. The prompt and the picture stay on the phone.

Image generation is not listed for MLC Chat.

Your files, answered with sources

Add a PDF or your notes to a Project. Ask a question in plain words. OGAM answers and cites the passage it used, so you can check it in seconds.

The file never leaves your iPhone. Use it on a contract before you sign, or on a long report the night before a meeting.

Updated this month, and every month

OGAM shipped 8 mobile releases in October 2026. Version 0.0.118 was released on 23 October. New open models need an app that keeps up, and OGAM does.

MLC Chat's newest App Store version is from September 2024. MLC LLM, the engine behind it, is built for developers.

Your other devices

OGAM is on Google Play too. Its companion, Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD), runs on Mac, Windows and Linux with image generation on your GPU and voice in and out.

With Pro, Sync carries your chats and Projects between iPhone and computer over your own network. Away from your desk, OGAM can reach the bigger model on your computer over your home network or VPN.

Switch in five minutes

  1. Install OGAM from the App Store.
  2. Open the model library and download a model that fits your iPhone.
  3. Ask the question you last asked in MLC Chat.
  4. Ask for an image, then add a file to a Project and ask about it.

No account at any step.

What Pro adds

Pro is optional. It adds a hands-free voice mode with Kokoro, drafts you approve before anything is sent, and Sync across up to 5 devices. On 29 October 2026 it costs $79.99 once, a limited-time price down from $119, or $7.99 a month. See Pro.

The free app stays free. Chat, images, vision, voice input and Projects never need Pro.
