Opera Neon calls itself "a browser built to act" on its home page. Neon Do clicks through pages for you. Research agents write reports. But the pages leave your computer. Neon's FAQ says "the webpage content is sent to Opera's and OpenAI's servers."

Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD) runs browser tasks too. It does them in the Chrome you already use, through an extension. The model that reads the page runs on your own computer. With a local model selected, nothing goes to OpenAI. And Pro is one payment, not $19.90 every month.

1 year 3 years
Opera Neon $238.80 $716.40
Off Grid AI Pro, lifetime $79.99 $79.99

Off Grid AI's browser chat is free. Browser tasks, desktop tools and the Vault come with Pro.

How a browser task runs on your computer

  1. Install the Off Grid AI extension in Chrome and keep OGAD running.
  2. In the extension, open Settings > Desktop and choose Pair with desktop. Check that the six words match, then approve in OGAD.
  3. Turn on Agent and describe the result you want, for example a table of three ticket statuses with links.
  4. Watch the plan and each step in OGAD. Guide it if it picks the wrong part of the page, or press Stop.
  5. When the task wants to send, create or delete something, OGAD shows the action. You approve it or reject it.

The extension refuses one-time codes, card numbers and CAPTCHAs in code. Sign-ins come from your Vault or from you. Opera says Neon keeps passwords and cookies on your device too. The difference is the page itself: in OGAD, a local model reads it.

For a full walk-through, see how to automate tasks in your signed-in browser with local AI.

The browser is one part of Pro

Neon is a browser that acts. Off Grid AI Pro is your whole working day, on your own hardware:

  • Memory. Your screens, meetings, mail and documents become one local memory you can search and ask.
  • Meetings without a bot. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised on your computer.
  • Actions you approve. It drafts replies and issues through Gmail, Linear, Jira and Notion. Nothing goes out without your yes.
  • God, your chief of staff. A morning brief, meeting prep with notes from last time, and the to-dos people owe you.
  • Reflect, Vault, Clipboard and Sync. Where your day went, passwords encrypted on your disk, every copy searchable, and your phone and computer in sync, device to device.

All of it is in the same $79.99, on up to 5 devices.

When Opera Neon is the better pick

Neon gives you top cloud models in one subscription, with several agents for agendas, browsing and research. It also includes Opera's ad blocker and free VPN. And it runs on any laptop, because the planning happens in the cloud. OGAD needs a computer that can run a local model. Most Apple silicon Macs and recent PCs can, and the app shows which models fit.

If you want a new browser with frontier models and the pages you visit are public, Neon is a fair choice. If your browser holds client, legal or deal pages, keep the model on your own machine. Off Grid AI's extension is on Chrome today; Edge, Brave, Arc and Firefox have a waitlist.

Switch in ten minutes

  1. Download OGAD for Mac, Windows or Linux.
  2. Get Pro and enter your key in the app.
  3. In Models, download a text model that can use tools. The app shows which fit your computer.
  4. Add the Off Grid AI extension to Chrome and pair it with the desktop.
  5. Run a short reading task and check the result against the pages.
