Name Swap Alert: OCD Strikes Again (But It’s Just the Username)

I changed my username back to anchildress1 (just dropped the extra “1” from anchildress11). For whatever reason, my usual username wasn’t available when I first made the account, but my OCD-tendencies finally won out!

Odds are, I probably made an account years ago and totally forgot. Cue the “wait, this seems oddly familiar...” moment. 🫣

I was doing something completely unrelated and somehow ended up staring at my profile page - the editable text field practically begging me to try it. And... it worked! 🎉 I finally feel like myself again!

The brief rounds of testing I did say the auto-redirect will handle any references or links that are out there, but just in case I apologize in advance if anything gets weird. Let me know if you run into problems from the switch!

Everything I share here is my own perspective—created with the help of AI tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and their friends), but always with a human in the loop. I do my best to catch accidental bias and fact-check, but if you ever spot something odd, let me know! AI isn’t perfect, and neither am I.

TL; DR: AI helped, but you can blame me for the chaos! 🫠

I had so many battles with myself for picking a username. I was never satisfied with my choice and I kind of convinced myself that nobody cared how cool or perfect my username was.

My thinking process was the following:

  • Should I go for a generic {first name}{last name} format?
  • Maybe put an underscore in between?
  • Nah, it's too boring. Maybe I should use something different for my future company / brand.
  • I don't even have an idea for a startup, why do I even need a company name?
  • Not only that, people will identify me more if I use my own name.
  • OK. The full name it is then. Let's try: "giorgikobaidze" ... oh no! It's taken on github, come on!
  • How about "giorgi_kobaidze"? Oh for god's sake, it's taken on twitter / instagram.
  • I guess I can use "George" because those two are essentially the same. Let me try "georgekobaidze" ... BINGO!

And that's how my username was created.

I’m cracking up 🤣🤣🤣 This is honestly how half my conversations with myself end up! The username I use now? Definitely not my first choice. My college advisor made me get it - apparently the nickname I used for everything back then “wasn’t professional enough.” I just slapped a “1” on there because my real name was already taken on Google. The only upside is it’s somehow available everywhere else - unless I’ve already used it and totally forgotten (which, let’s be real, happens way more than I’d like to admit).

Imagine the whole username picking situation after 10-20 years. It will be impossible to find something that doesn't require adding bunch of random numbers at the end. 🤣
