Hi all. I wanted to share a bit of context on why I built Chunks.
Most nights before bed, I’d open Instagram or TikTok for a few minutes and somehow lose an hour, without really enjoying it or learning anything.
I saw my wife doing the same, some younger family members and even friends who also said they were getting sucked into doomscrolling.
Doomscrolling has become a surprisingly common habit. Many people open social media before bed intending to spend a few minutes relaxing, only to realise they’ve spent an hour scrolling through content that doesn’t really leave them feeling better or wiser. I started wondering if that same time could be used for something small but meaningful learning in short, five-minute sessions.
Looking for an alternative to doomscrolling
I originally explored apps like Nibble and Paladin while researching this idea, but I wanted something deeper and more habit-driven.
At the same time in my personal career (I’m a mobile developer with around 15 years of experience), I wanted to:
Get more hands-on full-stack experience
Build an actual product for myself
Experiment with AI in a practical, non-gimmicky way
So I built Chunks.
It took around 9 months to get to this point, and now most of my time is spent on content curation, some automation and going into marketing, which has been its own learning curve.
The userbase is slowly increasing, I’m seeing better and better conversion rates in App Store, the onboarding and the paywall. It’s still early days, but replacing even a small amount of doomscrolling with something intentional feels like a win.
Happy to answer questions or share learnings.
