Open-source is at the ❤️ of everything we do at Appwrite, and we want to enable and foster the open-source community that helped us grow to over 27,000 stars on GitHub. However, open-source projects require a great deal of effort to maintain and grow. We use open-source tools every day to build Appwrite, and we want to help our community. To give back, each Appwrite engineer gets to pick an open-source project for Appwrite to sponsor for one year. The project I have chosen to contribute to is OBS.
🎬 Creating Better Livestreaming Experiences
Being a developer-first company, we must maintain active engagement with our developer community and create quality experiences for them on all fronts. One such front that was already a massive space but has become more important in this remote world is livestreaming and video content📹. As a Developer Advocate, I’m often responsible for ensuring the success of our livestreaming efforts as a speaker and host. However, managing streaming gear such as a webcam, mic, and green screen while ensuring consistent video quality can become a challenging task🥵. The application that comes to my rescue here every single day is OBS Studio.
OBS Studio does not just make it easier to manage my gear for livestreaming but also allows me to set up amazing-looking productions for any recordings🤩. If you’re a budding live streamer, no matter what platform you prefer, it’s definitely a powerful tool💪 to have in your repertoire.
Just an important tip, don't wear green when streaming with a green screen! 😝
🤝 Supporting Open-Source Software
Being an open-source company, we understand the challenges that open-source projects face. If you fall in love ❤️ with an open-source project (like we have), there are multiple ways to contribute to and support their journey. Most OSS projects happily accept contributions in their preferred manner, whether in the form of commits, bug 🐛 reports, advocacy, or even monetary 💰 support. If you love OBS and want to support them, feel free to contribute in whatever way works best for you. And in case you're interested in contributing to Appwrite, go ahead and check out our contribution guide.
