Just Realized I Spend Most of My Day Slouching

Like many developers, I spend 8+ hours a day at a desk.

For months, I'd finish work with tension in my neck and between my shoulders.
A few months ago, I started noticing the same pattern every evening.

My upper back felt tight.
My neck was stiff.
Sometimes I'd stand up from my chair and feel like I needed a few minutes just to straighten myself out.

I blamed my chair.

Then my desk.

Then my monitor setup.

But the real problem was much simpler.

Every time I got deeply focused, my posture completely fell apart.

Head forward.
Shoulders rounded.
Back curved.

Not for a few minutes.

For hours.

The frustrating part is that I knew I was supposed to sit properly. I just never noticed when I stopped.

I started paying attention more seriously, and I realized it wasn’t occasional.

It was constant micro-slouching all day long.

That’s what was actually creating the pain: not one bad position, but hundreds of unnoticed ones.

Eventually, I tried fixing it by forcing myself to “check” my posture regularly.

That’s when things started to improve.

To make it easier to stick to, I ended up building a small tool for myself that just reminds me at random moments to reset my posture during work.

That simple change is what finally reduced the constant neck and upper back tension for me.

I’m curious if others here deal with the same thing during long coding sessions.
