The goal of mentoring
is not to be needed forever.
It's the opposite.
If someone still depends on you
for every answer a year in,
you didn't grow them.
You kept them.
The best thing you can do
is work yourself out of the job.
Teach the how, not just the what.
Explain your reasoning,
not only your conclusion,
so they can reach the next one
without you in the room.
Hand back the problem
a little more each time.
Let them struggle a bit longer
before you step in.
It feels good to be the one
with the answers.
Resist that.
Your success isn't measured
by how much they lean on you.
It's measured by how well they walk
when you finally let go.
Make yourself unnecessary.
That's not you failing.
That's the whole point.
