It's easy to teach
from where you stand.
To explain the way that makes sense
to you, at your level,
with all your context.
But the person in front of you
isn't standing where you are.
Good mentoring starts
by finding their actual spot —
what they know,
what they're scared of,
what words already mean something to them.
Then you build from there,
one real step at a time,
not from where the textbook starts.
The same explanation
lands for one person
and bounces off another.
That's not their failure.
It's a sign to move to where they are.
Don't teach the lesson you'd want.
Teach the one they can hear today.
Meet them there first.
The rest actually sticks.
