Separate the Note From the Person Giving It

Some of the best feedback I ever got
came wrapped badly.

Blunt. Poorly timed.
From someone I didn't especially like.

And I almost threw it out
because of the wrapping.

Here's a skill worth building:
weigh the note and the messenger separately.

A clumsy delivery
doesn't make the point wrong.
A warm delivery
doesn't make it right.

Take the message.
Grade the delivery on its own,
and don't let a bad one
rob you of a true thing.

The people who grow fastest
can hear a real point
through an imperfect voice.

Keep the signal.
Let the tone go.
