๐ŸŽ‰ Better & satisfying coding interviews (new on jsitor.com, free to try)

Be honest: how many interviews have started with "can you hear me? let me share my screen... wait, can you see it now?"

Pairing on a problem should feel like pairing. So on jsitor.com you can now run a live coding interview with one link.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Try it free at jsitor.com

What an interview looks like

Image description_jsitor

That's the demo from the jsitor.com home page. Maya is interviewing Dev on a classic two-sum problem. Both of them are in the same file, each with a named, coloured cursor. Dev writes the solution, Maya follows along and drops a follow-up right in the editor: "Nice! Can you do it in O(n)?"

No screen-share lag, no "which window are you looking at?", and nobody needs to install anything.

Why it's easy

1. One link to start. Open a project or pen, save a project or pen to start with and , hit Collab, copy the link and send it. That's the whole setup.

2. Your candidate doesn't need an account. A guest opens the link, picks a display name and they're in. There's no signup wall in the middle of someone's interview.

3. You see everything they do. Remote cursors with names, avatars and colours, plus a shared muse pointer anywhere in the app window. You can point at a line and say "what happens here?" and they can see it.

4. The code actually runs. jsitor runs a real Node.js runtime inside the browser tab. The candidate can npm install, run the file and see the output without a remote sandbox to wait for. Pens run plain HTML, CSS and JS with instant preview for front-end rounds.

5. You choose how much to sync.

Mode What's shared
Detached (default) Only the code. Everyone keeps their own panels and terminal.
Sync Files, tabs, run/stop, terminal and panel state mirror to everyone. Handy when you want to walk someone through.

6. Sessions are time-boxed. A session lasts an hour by default, with a countdown in the top bar. When it ends, the links stop working, and you can end it yourself at any time.

Run your first interview in 60 seconds

  1. Go to jsitor.com and open a pen or project
  2. Paste in your problem, such as a function stub and a few test cases
  3. Hit Start to begin a collab session
  4. Send the link to your candidate
  5. Code together ๐ŸŽ‰

Not interviewing? It works just as well for pair programming, debugging with a teammate or teaching a friend.

It's free to try, so kick the tires

Make up a problem and pair with a colleague. Run a mock interview with a friend. Try it on a bug that's been bugging you.

Then tell me in the comments:

  • What would make this better for your interview process?
  • What do you wish you could see while a candidate codes?
  • What broke? I'll fix it.

Happy interviewing! ๐Ÿงก
