How I Built and Deployed Web Apps on an Android Phone in Tanzania

Termux on Android mobileHow I Built and Deployed Web Apps on an Android Phone in Tanzania

For about two years, an Android phone has been my primary development machine.

Not because I think phones are better development machines than computers.

Because it was what I had.

In 2022, financial constraints interrupted my university studies after roughly three months. Without a laptop and without the ability to continue university at the time, I decided to keep learning software engineering independently.

Eventually, that learning turned into real projects.

And AI became an important part of the process.

AI wrote a lot of the code

I want to make this explicit.

I did not manually write every line of these applications.

I used AI coding tools extensively.

But I wasn't simply pressing a button and publishing whatever came out.

My workflow involved:

  • designing the product
  • defining features
  • breaking problems into smaller tasks
  • prompting and directing AI
  • reviewing generated code
  • integrating APIs and services
  • debugging
  • testing
  • changing architecture
  • deploying
  • iterating

The interesting question became less “Can I type this code on a phone?” and more:

“Can I use the tools available to me to turn an idea into a functioning system?”

My mobile development environment

My setup included:

  • Android
  • Acode
  • Termux
  • Git/GitHub
  • AI coding assistants
  • React
  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS
  • PWAs
  • Vercel
  • APIs and cloud services

It wasn't glamorous.

But it worked.

What I built

Over time, I created several projects.

FloatFlow

A mobile-money agent management concept focused on float, transactions and reconciliation.

WealthOS

An experimental financial platform exploring wealth-building, financial education and simulations.

Pesa Manager

A group-finance concept for Chamas, savings groups and cash-flow management.

Dream TV

A much bigger idea: an internet broadcasting layer for organizations, broadcasters, creators and other content operators.

ASOMG Technologies

My broader technology/venture platform and home for several experiments.

You can explore the live projects and the complete background behind them here:

I deliberately put everything in one place so readers can inspect the work rather than relying on this article alone.

From self-learning back to university

The journey eventually led somewhere unexpected.

I've now been admitted to Arusha Technical College (ATC) for a BSc in Computer Science beginning in October 2026.

I'm scheduled to report on October 19, 2026.

After years of learning through projects, I now want to strengthen the foundations behind what I've been building:

  • algorithms
  • data structures
  • computer architecture
  • operating systems
  • databases
  • networking
  • mathematics
  • software engineering
  • programming fundamentals

Why I'm sharing this now

I'm at an interesting transition point.

The projects prove that I can build things.

University is the opportunity to understand the underlying science more deeply.

But I need to bridge the financial gap to actually start.

My immediate first-semester tuition/fee requirement is approximately $270 / TZS 699,000, followed by the need for a suitable developer laptop.

I've therefore created a central page containing the complete story, admission information, projects and education-support options.

If you've read this far, that's the page I'd like you to visit:

You don't have to support me financially.

You can inspect the projects.

You can give technical feedback.

You can share the story.

You can connect me with someone who might help.

Or you can simply see what can come out of an Android phone when someone refuses to stop learning.

That's the experiment I'm documenting.
