Building a startup is hard. Finding the right startup to buy can be even harder.
When founders want to sell a SaaS product or when buyers want to acquire an online business, they often face the same problems: limited information, unclear revenue figures, fragmented marketplaces, and a lack of trust between buyers and sellers.
That is the problem I'm working on with RevMRR.
What is RevMRR?
RevMRR is a startup revenue intelligence and discovery platform designed to help people discover startups, explore business metrics, and find online businesses with acquisition potential.
The goal is simple: make it easier to discover startups and understand the businesses behind them.
Why startup discovery needs to improve
Today, startup information is spread across company websites, directories, social media, founder profiles, and acquisition marketplaces.
Finding a promising company can mean manually checking multiple sources and trying to understand whether the business is growing, what it does, and whether it might be a good acquisition opportunity.
I believe startup discovery can be more useful when company information, revenue insights, and acquisition opportunities are brought closer together.
What we're building
RevMRR focuses on several areas:
- Startup discovery: Explore companies and online businesses in one place.
- Revenue intelligence: Discover available MRR, ARR, and business growth information, with verification status where supported.
- Company profiles: Understand what a startup does and explore its available business information.
- Advanced search: Find relevant companies using more targeted filters.
- Startup acquisition: Help buyers and sellers connect around online businesses and SaaS products.
Revenue transparency is an important part of the vision. Revenue figures should be presented responsibly, with clear distinctions between reported information and independently verified data.
The technical challenge
Building a useful startup database involves more than collecting company names and displaying them in a directory.
The platform needs to organize information from different sources, keep company profiles searchable, handle changing business metrics, and make discovery fast as the database grows.
Search quality, data consistency, and trust are just as important as the user interface.
Another challenge is helping buyers make informed decisions without suggesting that every publicly displayed metric has been independently verified.
These are some of the problems we're working to solve as RevMRR evolves.
Who is RevMRR for?
RevMRR is being built for:
- Founders exploring the startup ecosystem.
- Indie hackers looking for interesting online businesses.
- Entrepreneurs considering acquiring a SaaS product.
- Buyers researching potential acquisition opportunities.
- People interested in startup revenue trends and business discovery.
What's next?
The long-term vision is to make RevMRR a useful place to discover startups, understand their business performance, and explore opportunities to buy or sell online businesses.
We're continuing to develop the platform and improve the experience around startup discovery, search, revenue information, and acquisitions.
Building this is an ongoing process, and feedback from founders, developers, and indie hackers is valuable.
