I Built secret2.link to Share Secrets Once

We’ve all done it: pasting a password, API key, or private link into chat and hoping for the best.

I wanted a safer default.

So I built secret2.link — a tiny tool for sharing secrets once, without trusting email, Slack, or DMs.

What it does

  • 🔐 Encrypts secrets client-side
  • 🔗 Generates a one-time link
  • 🕳️ Deletes the secret after it’s viewed
  • ⏳ Optional expiration
  • 🚫 No accounts, no tracking

The server never sees plaintext, and once the link is opened, the data is gone.

Why I made it

Most “secure sharing” tools are heavy:

  • accounts
  • dashboards
  • permanent storage

I wanted something you could use in seconds, then forget about.

This isn’t a password manager — it’s a safer alternative to “I’ll just DM you the key real quick.”

Who it’s for

  • Developers sharing credentials
  • Teams passing temporary access
  • Anyone tired of secrets living forever in chat history

Try it / feedback welcome

I’m actively iterating and would love feedback — especially around UX, threat models, or edge cases.

Built and shared in the spirit of the DEV Community ❤️
