How to Search Texas Professional Licenses (TDLR) Programmatically

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) licenses over 30 types of professionals, from electricians and HVAC technicians to barbers, auctioneers, and property tax consultants. Their public license database is useful for verification, but not built for bulk access.

What TDLR Data Includes

For each license holder:

  • License number and type (electrician, plumber, HVAC, cosmetologist, etc.)
  • Licensee name and business name
  • License status (active, expired, revoked)
  • Issue and expiration dates
  • City and state

Use Cases

  1. Home services platforms - Verify that contractors are actually licensed before listing them
  2. Insurance underwriting - Check license status for policy decisions
  3. Lead generation - Build targeted lists of licensed professionals by trade and location
  4. Compliance monitoring - Track license expirations and status changes
  5. Market research - Analyze the licensed professional landscape in Texas

Automated TDLR Search

I built an Apify actor that searches the TDLR database programmatically. Filter by license type (30+ categories), name, or city. Get structured JSON output.

Try it: TDLR Texas Professional License Search

Supports all TDLR license types including: electricians (ELCTRC), plumbers (PLUMBR), HVAC technicians (ACR), cosmetologists, barbers, auctioneers, tow truck operators, property tax consultants, and more.
