How to Balance Classes, Labs & Life as a Software Engineering Student

How to Balance Classes, Labs & Life as a Software Engineering Student
AyeshaAppDev

In my 5th semester, I was doing an onsite internship (9 AM to 2 PM), remote internships with 2–3 companies, and university classes from 3 PM to 8 PM, while building my personal brand through content creation.

I graduated as a Software Engineer in July 2026, and these 3 habits made it manageable:

  1. Finish lab work inside the lab. Debug there and push to GitHub before leaving, and you get 2–3 hours back every evening.

  2. Time-block, don’t multitask. Use three daily blocks: Academic, Skill (2 focused hours for your own projects), and Personal.

  3. Build a project circle. Split semester projects by strength: backend, UI, documentation.

I’ve shared the full breakdown in my new YouTube video:

For students reading this: what’s harder for you right now, managing labs or finding time for self-learning?
