I Built a Word Guessing Game to Make Learning IT Concepts More Fun

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo developer, and I recently released Guess the Code, a free Android word game where you guess technical terms from clues.

The idea came from something familiar to anyone learning IT: there are hundreds of technologies, tools, and concepts to remember, and sometimes learning their names and meanings can be a challenge on its own.

I wanted to make that process a little more interactive.

How it works

The gameplay is similar to Hangman. You get a clue and a set of empty tiles, then try to guess the technical term by selecting letters.

For example:

Clue: A key-value NoSQL database service provided by Amazon.

You have five hearts, and each incorrect guess costs you one. If you get stuck, you can use a hint.

What's included?

The game currently covers nine categories:

DevOps and Cloud
Cybersecurity
Data Science and AI
Networking
Database Management
Mobile Development
UI/UX Design
Embedded Systems and IoT
Game Development

There are around 1,000 technical terms in the game, covering a range of IT topics.

It's not meant to replace courses, documentation, or practical experience. The goal is to offer another way to test your knowledge, reinforce concepts, and discover terms you might not have come across before.

Why I built it

As a developer, I spend a lot of time learning new technologies and trying to understand concepts across different areas of IT.

I thought it would be interesting to turn some of that knowledge into a simple game instead of another list of definitions to memorize.

The game is free to play, with a small banner ad and optional rewarded ads for extra hints or attempts.

Give it a try

Guess the Code is currently available on Android.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itguessgame.guess_the_code

I'd appreciate any feedback, especially on the quality of the clues, the difficulty, and whether the game could be useful for people learning IT.

Are the clues clear enough? Would you prefer more beginner-friendly terms, or more challenging ones? And are there any IT categories you'd like to see added?

Thanks for reading!
