Bees went public on 13 Oct. It's a free, open source desktop app that runs a small team of AI agents on your own computer. Here are the real numbers a day later, plus what surprised us.
The numbers
- 15 GitHub stars
- 4 forks
- About 67 installer downloads across v0.2.0 to v0.2.2
- 0 issues opened by people outside the team
- 64 repo visitors in the last 14 days
Small, and that's fine. We'd rather know where we stand.
The biggest surprise
On 6 Oct someone we don't know posted a Show HN about Bees. That one post sent more people to bees.bot than all of our own posts put together. A stranger finding it worth sharing did more than anything we wrote about ourselves.
What we learned
- Launch day was quiet. We expected a spike. We got a trickle.
- Get to the point in the first seconds. One Reddit reader said our launch video took 15 seconds to get to the point. That's fair, and we're taking it.
- Many launch sites block new accounts. A lot of the usual "submit your project" sites put a bot check or a paid tier in front of new accounts, so a good chunk of our launch list never happened.
What would help
If you try it and something breaks, or a screen makes no sense, please open an issue. Zero outside issues means we're flying blind on what real use looks like. Blunt feedback is welcome too.
