They do know I do software development on different projects and that it's complicated, but otherwise they don't understand. When they ask about what I do, I mainly explai what kind of project I work on which is mostly work for various startups. I have friends that are software engineer, computer engineer and robotics engineer that do understand what I do and it's always a pleasure to finally have people to talk about it with.
They think that I’m hacking something especially when I’m working on a new project and there is an old project new project and few windows of vs code 😂
An aspiring artist using code as another medium for creation. I am currently a software developer in an EdTech company focused on improving communication in the workplace. I work heavily in Ruby!
This is a good question! When I explain what I do I usually say something like "I do coding, sometimes, but mostly I talk to people".
This is of course different depending on what role, type of company and seniority you have. I say code is merely a tool to solve real life problems but that seldom converts into an actual understanding on their side.
Usually they quickly change the subject after this 😂 and I don't blame them!
They think I'm an entire IT department and can fix all of their IT related problems.
I mean, I do fix their problems, but most of the time, I just do what I always do (aside from moving rectangles around to make a coherent UI of them): I professionally Google the answer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They think that it is accomplished using a graphic editor (like figma). Even if some of them know the existence of programming languages (from a past time they graduated from a university) they think that this is no longer necessary, nowadays you just need an app builder.
