The BeenVerified opt out is free and takes a few minutes. You search for your own listing on the BeenVerified opt out page. You pick the listing and enter an email. Then you confirm through a link sent to that inbox. Most removals show up within about 24 hours, per BeenVerified. You do not need a membership, and you never pay to remove your own record.

This guide walks through each step of the BeenVerified opt out process. It explains what the removal covers and what it misses. It also shows why records come back, and how to file privacy requests under state law. Then it covers other data broker opt out pages, since BeenVerified is only one of hundreds.

Every BeenVerified fact here comes from its own pages and help center. We checked them in October 2026. We are not affiliated with BeenVerified. BillionVerify is an email verification service. For a full overview of the company, read our BeenVerified guide.

Key facts (checked October 2026):

  • Taking your listing off BeenVerified costs nothing and requires no membership, per BeenVerified's help center.
  • BeenVerified says most removals take effect within about 24 hours after you confirm by email.
  • Each online BeenVerified request removes one report; extra records go by email to privacy@beenverified.com.
  • BeenVerified's removal applies to People Search only, so its other search tools may still show your details.
  • The Lifetime Value Co. runs BeenVerified and sister sites such as PeopleLooker, NeighborWho and Ownerly, per the company's own brands page.
  • California's DROP sends a single free deletion request to more than 600 registered data brokers, per the state privacy agency.

How to Opt Out of BeenVerified

It is the fastest way to remove your information from BeenVerified. Here is the short version:

  1. Open the BeenVerified opt out page.
  2. Search for your name and state.
  3. Select the record that matches you.
  4. Enter an inbox you can reach.
  5. Click the link in the verification email.
  6. Watch for the confirmation email.
  7. Search again after about 24 hours.

BeenVerified describes its removal in plain terms on its FAQ: "If you see your information in our people search results, and don't want it to show up any more, no problem."

BeenVerified opt out page instructions on the BeenVerified FAQ

Screenshot: "Need to Opt-Out? We Make it Easy" on the BeenVerified FAQ.

The same FAQ adds a caveat. Different information about you "might appear because it can't conclusively be associated with the information you previously opted out." You can opt out that record too. We cover repeat listings below.

Find the BeenVerified Opt Out Official Page

Search for "BeenVerified opt out" and you will see many results. Some are guides. Some are paid removal firms. Only one is the BeenVerified opt out official page.

The BeenVerified opt out official page lives at beenverified.com/app/optout/search. The address may forward to a longer path under /svc/optout/. That is normal. The page may also run a short browser security check before it loads.

How to reach it from the BeenVerified site

The footer on every BeenVerified page has a link called "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information." That link opens the BeenVerified opt out official site. The FAQ also links to it as "easy instructions." Either route lands on the same BeenVerified opt out page.

How to spot a fake

Watch for three signs:

  • A different domain. The real form sits on beenverified.com.
  • A fee. BeenVerified states you "never have to pay" to remove your own listing.
  • A login wall. You do not need an account to opt out.

If a site wants payment to remove your BeenVerified listing, close it. The BeenVerified opt out official page is the safe choice.

Step-by-Step BeenVerified Opt-Out

BeenVerified's help center sets out the BeenVerified opt out process in one paragraph. "Just search our database, select your record, and verify your request to opt out by clicking on the link in our verification email." Here is each step in detail.

Remove information from BeenVerified: the help center article on removing your name

Screenshot: BeenVerified's help center article "How do I remove my name from BeenVerified's people search results?"

Step 1: Find your listing

Go to the BeenVerified opt out page. Type your first name, last name and state. Results show names, ages, cities and relatives. Use those details to find your own listing. Bookmark the BeenVerified opt out official site so you can come back for later checks.

Many people share a name. Check the age and past cities before you choose. Removing a stranger's listing does nothing for you.

Step 2: Submit the opt out request

Select your record. The form asks for an email address. BeenVerified sends the verification link to that inbox.

BeenVerified states how it uses that email. It serves one purpose: confirming that the opt out request is yours. BeenVerified adds that it "will not sell the email address" you provide for the opt out request.

Step 3: Confirm by email

Open the verification email. Click the link inside. This step proves the request came from you. Without the click, the BeenVerified opt out request stays open.

Can't find the email? Check spam and promotions folders. Then check that you typed the address correctly. A typo means the link never arrives.

Step 4: Wait for the confirmation

After you verify, BeenVerified sends a second email. It confirms that "the record you selected has been opted out." BeenVerified also says it "will instruct our data partners not to return the record in future People Search results."

Step 5: Check it's gone

The change shows "the next time our server refreshes." In most cases, that takes 24 hours. Then return to the BeenVerified opt out page and look yourself up.

Still seeing the record? BeenVerified suggests you may need to clear your browser history. Your computer might show a cached page from before the opt out. If the listing remains, email privacy@beenverified.com.

What the BeenVerified Opt Out Removes

It removes one listing from People Search. That is the main search on the site. It stops your name, age, addresses and relatives from showing in that report.

The removal is free. It needs no membership. It needs no account. These points come straight from BeenVerified's help center: "you do not have to be a member of BeenVerified in order to opt out."

What the BeenVerified Opt Out Doesn't Remove

The BeenVerified opt out has clear limits. Know them before you file.

Other search types

BeenVerified states: "At this time, we only provide an opt-out for our People Search service." It warns that "your name might appear in search results for the other search services available through BeenVerified even after you opt out of People Search."

So a phone number or street address may still return results in other tools. Write to BeenVerified about those.

More than one record

BeenVerified allows one removal per online request. In its words, "we only permit you to remove one person report from our People Search results through our online opt-out process." It says this rule exists "to prevent fraud and protect the integrity of our opt-out process."

Found several reports about you? Email BeenVerified's privacy team. It "will be happy to help you" remove the rest.

The original sources

BeenVerified gathers public records. It does not create them. Removing a listing from BeenVerified does not erase the county record, court file or property deed behind it. Those stay with the agency that holds them.

Marketing emails

BeenVerified also has an email unsubscribe page. It confirms that you have "been unsubscribed from BeenVerified Emails and opted out of all Push Notifications." That page stops messages. It does not remove information from BeenVerified search results.

Remove Your Phone Number and Address

Most people want two details gone: a phone number and a home address. Here is how each one works.

Your phone number

Your phone number usually sits inside your People Search record. The opt out hides that entry in People Search. But a reverse phone search is a separate tool. Other search services may still show your name.

To remove a number from other results, write to the privacy team. Name the number and the search where it shows up. People often search for a BeenVerified opt out phone number for this task. BeenVerified's privacy policy says residents of many states can also make privacy requests by phone or mail.

Your address

An address follows the same pattern. The People Search removal covers the listing tied to your name. Address searches run apart from People Search. Contact BeenVerified about address results that remain.

Keep in mind that property records are public. The county assessor and recorder still publish them. A people search removal does not change those files.

Why Your Information Came Back

Many people opt out, then find their name again months later. BeenVerified explains why.

It says it gets records from "several different public and private databases." Sometimes a partner sends a new record that is "different enough" from your old one. Different spellings, initials or addresses can cause this. BeenVerified then "cannot conclusively opt out the new record."

The result is a second report about you. It may appear in People Search even after your first opt out. The fix is simple. File a new BeenVerified opt out request for the new listing. The BeenVerified opt out page works the same way the second time. Or ask the privacy team for help.

How often to check

There is no fixed schedule. Many people search for their own name every few months. A quick check after any move or name change is also smart. New records often follow those events.

BeenVerified Opt Out Not Working? Fixes

Most failed requests come down to a few causes. Work through them in order.

  • The page keeps loading or asks you to prove you're human. The opt-out pages run a security check before the form appears. Turn off ad blockers and VPNs, allow cookies, then reload. Still stuck? Try a different browser or a phone.
  • No confirmation email. See Step 3 above. Check spam, then resubmit with the address typed carefully.
  • Several listings match you. The online form handles one report at a time. See "More than one record" above for how to remove the rest.
  • The listing is still there. Give it a day, clear cached pages, then search again, as described in Step 5.
  • It came back weeks later. Read "Why Your Information Came Back" above, then repeat the request.

If the form will not work at all, use the written route. BeenVerified accepts privacy requests by email at privacy@beenverified.com, as covered in the state law section below.

BeenVerified Removal Under State Privacy Laws

The BeenVerified opt out is one route. State privacy laws give many people a second way to remove personal information from BeenVerified. These rights cover more than People Search.

BeenVerified privacy request rights under state privacy laws

Which states are covered

BeenVerified's privacy policy lists residents of 15 states: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. California has its own notice.

Your rights

For those states, BeenVerified lists four rights:

  • Access: confirm whether it processes your data, and get a copy.
  • Deletion: delete certain personal information.
  • Opt-out: stop sales, sharing and targeted advertising.
  • Correction: fix inaccurate personal information.

How to send the request

You or an authorized agent can file "by filling out our online request form, emailing us at privacy@beenverified.com, or contacting us via the phone number or postal address listed above." If it denies the request, residents of most listed states can appeal.

California residents

California residents get a longer notice. Two rights stand out:

  • Right to Know. BeenVerified will respond "within 10 days of receipt with instructions." It aims to answer a verified request "within forty-five days." It may extend that to 90 days and will explain why.
  • Right to Delete. You can request deletion of information BeenVerified holds about you. The policy lists exceptions, such as data it must keep by law.

A helper can act for you as an authorized agent. BeenVerified asks for a signed letter from you or a valid power of attorney.

California DROP: One Data Broker Opt Out for Hundreds of Sites

California built a free tool for this exact problem. It is called DROP, the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform.

Data broker opt out with California DROP on privacy.ca.gov

Screenshot: the DROP page on privacy.ca.gov.

DROP says it lets you "tell data brokers to delete and not sell your personal information." Key facts from the state's page:

  • Cost: "Free — we will never charge you to use DROP."
  • Reach: one request goes "to over 600 registered data brokers."
  • Timing: starting August 1, 2026, brokers "must access DROP at least once every 45 days."
  • Status: "It could take up to 90 days to see your status updated."
  • Eligibility: you must be a California resident.

You can also file for another California resident. The page gives examples: a parent for a child, or a family member for an elderly relative.

The data broker registry

California requires data brokers to register each year. The state agency, CalPrivacy, keeps a public data broker registry. This year's fee is $6,000 per broker. The registry helps you see which companies trade in your data.

Other State Data Broker Registries

California is not alone. Two other states keep lists you can search.

Texas

Texas makes data brokers register with the Secretary of State. Registration costs $300 and lasts one year. The state keeps a searchable list of registered brokers. The Secretary of State notes that it "does not have the authority to regulate the business practices of a data broker." Complaints go elsewhere.

Vermont

Vermont also requires data broker registration. Its business filings site has a public data broker search. Use it to look up a company before you send a request.

BeenVerified's Sister Sites

BeenVerified is not a stand-alone site. Its privacy policy says BeenVerified.com "is provided by The Lifetime Value Co. LLC. acting through BeenVerified, LLC." The Lifetime Value Co. lists nine brands on its brands page. Six of them run people, phone or property lookups. Each of those sites names The Lifetime Value Co. as its provider in its own privacy policy.

Site What it does, per The Lifetime Value Co. Opt-out entry in its footer
PeopleLooker Online background reports peoplelooker.com/app/optout/search
NeighborWho Property record data neighborwho.com/svc/optout/search/optouts
Ownerly Home value data and insights ownerly.com/app/optout/search
ReversePhone Reverse phone lookup and spam reports Uses BeenVerified's main form
NumberGuru Lookups behind unknown phone numbers Sends you to BeenVerified's form
PeopleSmart Contact data for sales teams beenverified.com/app/optout/contact-search

The other three brands are Bumper for vehicle history, MoneyBot5000 for unclaimed funds and BeenVerified itself.

Does one request clear every site?

We found no official statement that a single request covers all of these brands. BeenVerified's own help article says its opt-out applies only to its people search. So work through each site's own form. PeopleLooker, NeighborWho and Ownerly each have their own page. ReversePhone, NumberGuru and PeopleSmart send you to BeenVerified forms, and PeopleSmart uses a separate contact-search form.

Opt Out of Other Data Brokers

BeenVerified is one people search site among many. Your details likely appear on others too. Each one runs its own removal process. Each data broker opt out works a little differently. Our BeenVerified alternatives guide covers who runs each site.

Spokeo

Spokeo's opt-out page asks for your profile link. Spokeo says the request "should be processed in 24-48 hours." It sends a confirmation email with a link to click.

Spokeo flags three limits:

  • Each listing "must be opted out individually."
  • Removal "will not remove the data from its original source."
  • Your information "may reappear on Spokeo in the future without notice."

Whitepages

Whitepages' opt-out page starts with one instruction: "Copy and paste the URL of your profile." The form runs in five steps.

PeopleConnect brands

PeopleConnect runs TruthFinder, Intelius and Instant Checkmate. It handles removal for those brands through its Suppression Center.

PeopleFinders

PeopleFinders runs its own opt-out page. Like the others, it works one profile at a time.

Track your requests

Keep a simple list as you go:

  • The site name.
  • The date you filed.
  • The profile URL or record you removed.
  • The confirmation email.
  • The date to check again.

A list like this saves time when records return.

Paid Data Removal Services

Some companies charge a yearly fee to file data broker opt out requests for you. They send the same free forms you can send yourself. Their value is time. They repeat requests when records come back.

Before you pay, weigh three points:

  • The forms are free. BeenVerified, Spokeo and Whitepages charge nothing for removal. You can remove your information from BeenVerified yourself in minutes.
  • California has DROP. Residents can contact hundreds of brokers in one free request.
  • Removal never touches the source. No service can erase a county record or court file.

If you value your time more than the fee, a service can help. If not, a list and an afternoon cover the main sites.

Use an Email You Can Check

Every step in the BeenVerified opt out depends on one email. The verification link goes there. The confirmation goes there too. If that inbox fails, the request stalls.

Three problems cause most stalled requests:

  • A typo in the address you typed.
  • A dead inbox, such as an old work account.
  • A full or blocked mailbox that bounces messages.

Check the address before you submit. Our free bounce email checker tells you whether an address will hard bounce. It uses a live SMTP probe and needs no signup.

Opt out confirmation email check with the BillionVerify bounce email checker

The BillionVerify bounce email checker sorts an address as deliverable, hard bounce or soft bounce.

Watch for fake removal messages

Once you start removing your data, you may get messages that claim to help. Some are scams. Look up the sender before you reply. Our free reverse email lookup shows the domain, mail routing and any public profile behind an address. It uses public signals only. For a caller who says they handle removals, run the number through our phone number validator. It shows whether the number is valid for its country and its line type.

How BillionVerify handles data

BillionVerify is not a people search site. It does not publish profiles. Customers submit email addresses to check whether they can receive mail. Our GDPR page states that for those lists, "the customer generally acts as the controller and BillionVerify acts as a processor." Uploaded source files are available for download for 1 day.

Opting Out vs Cancelling a BeenVerified Account

These two tasks often get mixed up. They do different things.

  • Opt out takes your listing out of People Search. It starts on the BeenVerified opt out page. Anyone can do it, member or not.
  • Cancel stops a paid membership. Only members need it.

Cancelling a membership does not remove your listing. Opting out does not end a membership. If you need both, do both. Our guide on how to cancel BeenVerified covers the second task.

Is the BeenVerified Opt Out Safe?

The official form is safe to use. BeenVerified uses the email "only" to verify the request and will not sell it. The BeenVerified opt out process never asks for card details. You never create an account.

The risk sits with fake sites. Use the BeenVerified opt out official page from the footer link. For a wider look at the company, read is BeenVerified legit?.
