I'm trying to sort some things out right now. I'm seriously considering dropping out in my third year of college to fully focus on developing my Roblox game. Lately, I feel like college is just dragging me down. It's full of things that don’t seem useful, and I’m not gaining any real, practical skills. I genuinely believe I can build a successful game, and this time, I truly trust myself.

I’m also thinking about ending my relationship with my girlfriend. It feels like both college and the relationship are holding me back from becoming who I really want to be. If I take this leap, dropping out and starting over, do you think I can make it in the future?

Hey fellow developer, first of all, I’m amazed at how similar our situations are. I was in a very similar place about two years ago — college was eating up my time, and my relationship was draining my energy.

I didn’t drop out of college though, because I felt the degree could serve as a good backup option. Plus, if you ever want to get into the industry, most companies still have degree requirements. Since you’re already in your third year, I’d suggest sticking it out. It’s just one more year (if it’s a bachelor’s), and you’ll walk away with something that can help you later on.

As for the relationship part, I won’t tell you what to do, because I’m not in your shoes. In my case, ending mine definitely gave me more mental peace in the long run — but I won’t lie, the first few months were really tough, and there were moments I regretted it.

If you’ve already taken the leap, then don’t look back. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what I or anyone else thinks. If you believe you can make it, then you can — and you have to give it your all.
