How to Receive Donations on TikTok LIVE with On-Screen Alerts

If you stream on TikTok LIVE, you already know gifts. Viewers buy coins, send roses, lions and universes, and you see diamonds pile up. What many creators only learn later is how much of that value disappears before it reaches them. TikTok keeps a large share of the coin value when it converts gifts to diamonds, and cash-out adds more fees on top. Gifts are great for engagement, but they're not the most efficient way for your biggest supporters to back you.

This guide shows how to add a second, direct way to receive support — a donation page — and how to make every donation show up on stream as a real-time alert, exactly like a gift would.

Why direct donations alongside gifts?

Think of it as giving your audience a choice. Casual viewers will keep tapping gifts; that's fine. But your regulars — the ones who show up every night — often want their support to actually land with you. A direct donation link lets them do that, and an on-screen alert gives them the same public "thank you" moment a big gift gets.

Direct donations also:

  • Work the same way across TikTok, Kick, YouTube and Twitch, so multistreamers have one page.
  • Let supporters attach a message that you can read on stream.
  • Don't depend on viewers buying platform coins first.

What you need

  1. A broadcasting tool — OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, or TikTok LIVE Studio. Anything that supports a browser source (or "link" source) works.
  2. A donation platform with alert widgets. In this guide I'll use Cayvoy, which was built with TikTok LIVE in mind and charges a tiered commission (10%, 9%, then 8%) with no monthly subscription. The same steps apply to most widget-based tools.
  3. A place to share your link — your TikTok bio, a pinned comment, or a verbal shout-out.

Step 1: Create your donation page

Sign up and claim your page name. Keep it identical to your TikTok handle so viewers recognise it instantly. Add a profile picture and a short line like "Every donation pops up live on stream ❤️" — telling people what happens when they donate is the single best conversion line you can write.

Set a minimum amount that makes sense for your audience. Too high and casual fans won't try it; too low and you'll get alert spam.

Step 2: Configure your alert

Open the alert widget settings and decide:

  • Animation and sound. Short and punchy wins. A 3–5 second alert with a recognisable sound becomes part of your stream's identity.
  • Message display. Show the donor's name, amount and message. Turn on a profanity filter.
  • Tiers. Bigger donations can trigger a bigger animation. This mirrors what viewers already love about large TikTok gifts.

Copy the widget's browser-source URL. Treat it like a password — anyone with it can display your alerts.

Step 3: Add the alert to your scene

OBS Studio / Streamlabs: Sources → + → Browser → paste the URL. Set width/height to your canvas (e.g. 1080×1920 for vertical TikTok streams). Position it where it won't cover your face.

TikTok LIVE Studio: Add source → Link → paste the URL. Resize and place it.

Send a test alert from the dashboard. If you see it but don't hear it, check that your browser source has "Control audio via OBS" enabled and that the audio mixer meter moves.

Step 4: Add a top gifters / goal widget (optional but powerful)

A top-donors widget turns support into a friendly competition. Viewers see who's on the leaderboard and want their name there. A donation goal ("new mic: 60% there") gives people a concrete reason to chip in. Add these as extra browser sources the same way.

Step 5: Tell people — without begging

The fastest way to kill a donation link is to nag. Instead:

  • Put the link in your bio and mention it once early in the stream.
  • When an alert fires, thank the person by name, react to their message, and move on. Other viewers see the alert and learn the link exists.
  • Pin a comment: "Want to support directly? Link in bio — it shows up live 👀".

Is it allowed on TikTok?

Platform rules change, so always check TikTok's current Community Guidelines and LIVE monetisation terms in your region. In general, avoid framing donations as payment for content TikTok restricts, don't run gambling-style mechanics, and never promise anything you can't deliver.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Alert doesn't appear: refresh the browser source cache; confirm the URL is current.
  • Appears late: close extra browser tabs and check your upload bandwidth.
  • No sound: monitor the browser source audio in OBS's Advanced Audio Properties.
  • Vertical layout looks wrong: set the browser source size to your actual canvas, not 1920×1080.

Wrapping up

Gifts aren't going anywhere, and you shouldn't discourage them. But adding a direct donation page with live alerts gives your most loyal fans a better way to support you — and gives your stream another moment of celebration. Set it up once, test it, and let your alerts do the talking.
