Small online tasks shouldn't need big software.
I've personally run into this many times. I just need to compress an image, resize a photo for a form, convert a HEIC file from an iPhone, or generate a quick QR code. Most of the time I end up on a website full of ads, forced signups, or "free trial" popups, or I'm told to install an app for a 10-second job.
As a developer, I started wondering:
Why does a simple utility task need an account, an upload to some unknown server, or a subscription?
That question led me to build ConvertLinx.
The Problem With Most Online Tools
Most free tool websites have the same issues:
Mandatory signup before you can even download your result
Heavy ads that hide the actual button you need
Watermarks or daily limits on "free" usage
Your files get uploaded to a server you know nothing about
Slow processing for tasks your own browser can handle easily
If you've ever tried to compress one image and ended up closing five popups, you know the pain.
The Idea: One Place, Zero Friction
Instead of building one tool at a time on random domains, I wanted a single place where everyday utilities live together. The goals were simple:
No signup
No ads
No watermarks
Works on any device
Processing happens in the browser, so files stay on your device
What ConvertLinx Does
ConvertLinx is a collection of 20+ free tools, grouped by what you actually need:
Image tools

Text & writing tools
Word Counter, Case Converter, Lorem Ipsum Generator
Text to Slug, Meta Tag Generator
Developer tools
JSON Formatter, Base64 Tool, Regex Tester
Favicon Generator, OG Preview Checker, WhatsApp Link Generator
Everyday utilities

A Closer Look: The Image Converter
One of the most-used tools is the Image Converter. Different platforms want different formats: WebP for faster websites, PNG when you need transparency, JPG for universal compatibility. Switching between them shouldn't require Photoshop.
You upload an image, pick the output format, and download it. Transparency stays intact where the format supports it, and nothing is sent to a server.

(Again, I intentionally kept it simple: choose, convert, download.)
Why Browser-Based Processing Matters
For most image and text tasks, there's no real reason to upload your file anywhere. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do the work locally. That gives you:
Speed: no waiting for upload and download cycles
Privacy: your photos, text, and documents stay on your device
Simplicity: open the page, use the tool, done
What About PDFs?
PDF work (merge, split, compress, convert) is a different kind of problem, so I keep it in a separate project: PDFLinx. ConvertLinx covers images, text, developer utilities, and everyday tools. PDFLinx handles document workflows. Together they cover most of what people need online daily.

What I Learned From This Project
Users value simplicity more than a long feature list
Removing friction (signup, ads, installs) builds trust faster than any marketing
Privacy is a feature, and "your files never leave your device" is a strong promise
Small tools solve very real everyday problems
Grouping tools by task makes a big site feel easy to navigate
Final Thoughts
If you're a developer thinking about building your own tool or micro-product, start with an annoyance you personally face every week. That's exactly how ConvertLinx started.
And if you're a user who just needs to compress, convert, or generate something quickly, give it a try. No account, no ads, no nonsense.
Thanks for reading. Happy building!
