Cybersecurity Education Should Be Free. So We Made It Free.
There is something backwards about cybersecurity education.
We keep telling people there is a massive shortage of skilled security professionals. Companies need defenders. Governments need defenders. Schools need instructors. Infrastructure needs people who actually understand what happens when things go wrong.
Then someone decides they want to learn cybersecurity and immediately gets introduced to the first lesson:

We think thats bullshit.
So we built DaemonCore Academy.
DaemonCore Academy is a free cybersecurity training application built around practical learning. Not just videos. Not a collection of articles pretending to be a course. The goal is to put students in front of realistic security concepts, workflows, labs, tools, evidence, and problems and make them actually work through them.
Pentesting. Ethical hacking. Network security. Web security. Security assessment. Linux. Enumeration. Vulnerability analysis. Reporting. Defensive thinking.
The important part?
The Academy is free.
Not "free for seven days."
Not "complete three lessons and subscribe."
Not "the introduction is free but everything useful costs $39.99/month."
Free.
We do build commercial software at DaemonCore. Thats how we intend to fund this experiment. But we dont believe the classroom itself needs to be the product.
If somebody is 16 years old with an old laptop and curiosity, they should be able to learn.
If somebody is 35 and trying to change careers, they should be able to learn.
If somebody lost their job and cant justify another subscription, they should still be able to learn.
And if youre already working in security and simply want another environment to practice in, come break things with us.
Cybersecurity has always had a culture of people learning from other people. Someone showed you Linux. Someone explained networking. Someone gave you your first VM. Someone answered the stupid question you were afraid to ask.
We want to keep that tradition alive.
DaemonCore Academy is available on Windows through the Microsoft Store, and were continuing to build it.
No education paywall.
No artificial XP economy required to convince you that youre progressing.
Just learn the material, do the work, understand why it works, and become dangerous to bad security.
Education should create opportunity, not debt.
