Hacktober Fast🍻

Looks like the lure of the free tshirt is causing more headaches than help to the open source community

A new twitter account @shitoberfest

is documenting collecting some "fun" contributions.

Tip

If you're participating, try to contribute in a helpful way.

That twitter acc is so entertaining, I read it for like an hour

These accounts should get permanent ban.

Somewhere in that twitter account I saw what I thought was a reasonable solution. Allowing github users to have some form of rating and repos having requirements that allow/disallow contribution to prevent such spam.

Apparently there's some youtube channel youtu.be/v9902nonYas?t=360 telling people to do this for a free shirt.🤦‍♂️

How NOT to get free swag

dirty harry

also, at 150,000+ views, OSS, brace yourselves for some serious 💩
