As developers, we spend a ridiculous amount of time researching things before buying them: laptops, monitors, keyboards, SSDs, headphones, networking equipment, software, and even small accessories.
But I've always wondered:
What actually makes you trust a product review?
Is it:
- Detailed technical specifications?
- Real-world testing?
- Pros AND cons?
- User reviews?
- Benchmarks?
- Long-term usage?
- The reviewer's reputation?
- Something else?
I've been experimenting with a product-review platform called DevReview, where the goal is to make product research easier and focus on useful information rather than just saying "this product is great."
I'd genuinely like to know what developers look for when researching a product.
