#DEVDiscuss: How will new leadership affect Twitter (and the broader tech industry)?

Hey Devs, happy Friday 🦥💚

As always, it's been an eventful week in the tech industry. We've got a lot to talk about! And today I want to discuss...how new leadership will affect Twitter and the broader tech industry.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, Elon Musk announced that Linda Yaccarino would become CEO of Twitter, and that he would continue to focus on "product, software, and sysops."

We've learned over the past year that changes to Twitter are never just changes to Twitter—they have ripple effects across the entire tech industry, from Tesla's stock valuation to the emergence of new platforms such as Bluesky.

So, what do you think is next? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's discuss!

Pro: the new CEO will probably not mock publickly on Twitter an employee like Haraldur Ingi Þorleifsson for having an hadicap.

Con: that's setting the bar absurdly low for what it means to have a good boss, working with whom you would have a good life.

I don't understand why people don't understand this:

Now let's do a hugely complex study to find out what the culture is like at Elon Musk companies

I think one should not work in a company like Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, ...

That we need to protect our time for doing things outside of work, with our family, with our friends, for playing music, for writing, for whatever matters to you.

But ultimately the choice is yours

I hadn't heard this news - because to me, it isn't news.

Maybe with a new person in charge, Twitter can claw back some credibility, but I doubt it. Right now, it's like saying the grumpy guy who works at the coal plant is stepping down.

And the world will be better off when fossil fuels are no longer newsworthy.
