Any kind of change that you are not used to or new to will be difficult.
For example, you trying to exercise but your body has not adapted to it yet so it will be difficult. (In the beginning)
The hardest habits to add are the ones that don't "stack" well -- for example, tying a "meditate for 10 minutes" in the morning before you "drive the kids to school" is never going to jive because half the time, the latter will have hiccups that interfere with the former.
My mornings, pre-work, are for getting the kids to where they need to be, and then ramping up for work. Personal health habits are stacked together during the lunch hour. Cleaning habits are stacked together after dinner, when I'm going to be doing the kitchen anyway. Learning habits are stacked in the evening after the kids are in bed.

Emptying my inbox. Strategies all failed, it remains chronically bloated and gets an axing/archiving every year or two or three.
As with a lot of things, the answer is... it depends.
But for some reason, I find that the hard habits tend to be more likely good for you (and therefore, will pay off) than easy once.
Yes. Challange is good, but not when the the return on effort is negative.
