Hey folks! Just dropped my submission for the challenge — a wood-fired pizza place landing page, built around the idea that comfort food is really about the ritual around it, not just the food.

Just submitted my Perfect Landing entry and had a lot of fun with this one -
thanks for a prompt that turned out to be more about memory than food.
One small thing I could use help with: the post is published with all four
tags and it does carry the Perfect Landing submission badge, but it isn't
showing up in the /t/frontendchallenge feeds. The page metadata has
author-trust 0 and robots nofollow, which I suspect is why. Would someone from

🫓 Pupusas at Midnight 🕯️
Just published my CSS Art submission: El Salvador's national comfort food — pupusas with curtido and salsa, drawn entirely in CSS. No images, no SVG.
The twist: the scene has a light switch. One single div with mix-blend-mode: multiply turns the whole table into a night pupusería lit by a flickering candle.

🍱 The Dabba
A four-tier steel tiffin carrier, opened on a table — dal, rice, a stack of
chapatis and a vegetable sabzi, all still steaming.
The other four answered "the dish you grew up eating" with a dish. This one
answers it with the box, because nobody ever packed one of these for themselves.
Steel is the one material where the usual approach fails: a polished cylinder
is a mirror, so what you draw is the room reflected in it, not the tin.

🌙 Midnight Fridge Raid
A dark kitchen at 2am, lit only by an open fridge door.
The brief says "or the dish you grew up eating" — so comfort food isn't a
recipe, it's a moment, and I drew the moment instead of the meal.
A feed full of ramen and pancakes is bright, warm and daylit; one dark scene
with a single hot light source stands out on contrast alone.

A terracotta kulhad of masala chai, whole spices on the table, biscuit waiting
to be dunked.
Four o'clock, every day, for as long as anyone can remember — the comfort food
that isn't food.
Unglazed clay was the whole reason for picking it: matte is far kinder to
layered gradients than glass will ever be.

🥚 Soft Boil
Five eggs at a rolling boil in a clear glass bowl, on an induction hob that
glows underneath.
Boiled eggs are what you make when you cannot cook — six minutes, one pan, and
the comfort is precisely that it isn't possible to get wrong.
Glass so you can actually see the boil, and an induction ring because it puts
the only warm thing in the picture underneath the water.

Nine skinless tandoori chickens on three rods, turning slowly over a low fire
behind the glass of a vertical tandoor.
The comfort isn't the eating, it's the waiting — standing at the window while
nine birds go round, knowing yours isn't ready, watching anyway.
The rods spin on an axis pointing straight at you, so nothing rotates at all:
the silhouette is held still and the char scrolls vertically inside it.

This is such a fun challenge
I love how it combines creativity with frontend skills. I’m definitely thinking about building something for it and experimenting with CSS and JavaScript. Might also use CodeCan.net to speed up some of the development and try out a few ideas. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s submissions!

Comfort food + CSS art is such a fun prompt combo. Already thinking about attempting a steaming plate of biryani in pure CSS, the rice grain texture alone sounds like a fun rabbit hole (probably way too many box-shadow layers, but that's half the appeal of these challenges).
Good to see JS being allowed in CSS Art now too, even if just "a sprinkle", makes stuff like steam animation or a subtle simmer effect possible without turning it into a full JS project.

Jollof rice had to be my entry. Comfort food for me is Nigerian food, and nothing sits at the head of that table like a pot of party jollof.
I built a love letter to it for Perfect Landing: one pot, zero photographs, all CSS. There's a Jollof Wars vote on the page, Naija vs Ghana, and the tally updates live.

Submitted mine: ChocoDEV, a landing page for a chocolate brand that does not exist, with a bar you can actually eat chunk by chunk. Zero images on the page, every square, drip and bevel is gradients, box-shadows and keyframes, and the counter is watching.

Came back for the second prompt. After the ChocoDEV landing page, the brand needed a product shot, and the brand's rule is no images ever, so it had to be drawn in CSS: one chocolate bar with a bite taken out of it, fracture facets, crumbs and all.

Good checklist. I’d add one second-stage check before an agent rollout: run a streaming request with a tool call, then force a client timeout/cancel.
A route can pass the first /chat/completions call but still fail on SSE delta shape, tool_call IDs, or final usage accounting. Keeping the raw SSE events for that test makes debugging much easier.
Comfort food + CSS art is such a brilliant combo! 🍕 It’s always amazing to see how far people can push pure CSS without relying on heavy JS or images. Looking forward to exploring all the creative submissions here!
