  • Everybody will use AI to rewrite their web apps and dev tools (just recently rewritten from TS to JS because of the obvious performance benefits) to Rust (or Zig)
  • The differences between frameworks will become even less distinguishable but hiring managers will still be hunting React developers only
  • CSS will gain more new fancy features and by the end of the year people will start to rewrite web apps from Rust and Zig to CSS

Hi, I'm interested to know why is TS a performance bottleneck? Is it related to inefficient code generated or the compilation procedure itself? I've read the handbook on TS but haven't gotten to write some code yet.

Nah, it's just a joke 🙂 There was a lot of hype lately (this fall) related to discussions of necessity of TS as opposed to simplicity of JS itself and simplicity of adding types with JSDoc, to the point of kinda religios holywar between pure-JS and TS proponents. That was emphasized by demonstrative switching from TS to JS of some popular dev tools with odious "thought-liders" behind them.

There are no performance bottle necks of course. TS is just a tool, very useful one. Somebody prefers JS with or without additional type annotations with tools like JSDoc. But in the end of the day, that's just a question of personal preference (or specific edge case requiring specific tool). As most questions in software development.

I actually think web technologies will reduce complexity and revert back to a simpler mindset.

  • A more challenging job entry, because AI raises expectations.
  • More googling, less coding! The complexity shifts away from the code into juggling with ever growing dependencies, complex tool chains and mysterious errors.
  • More bugs than ever! The ecosystem evolved a lot in recent years, leading to not-so-old apps quickly becoming legacy. However, developer time to take care of it is scarce.
