I am a retired software engineer with 50++ years of experience, primarily in the C languages, C++, C# .Net. I have experience in Windows, Unix, and Linux. Just four years older than NASA, I've been interested in crewed spaceflight beginning with NASA's Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle through today's spaceflight systems. I have witnessed two final crewed spaceflights, the American half of Apollo/Soyuz in July 1975, and the final Space Shuttle launch in July 2011; I also saw Atlantis land for the final time next to the control tower of the Shuttle Landing Facility, 200 yards from the runway.
Photography is another creative outlet that I have enjoyed since 1980. I started with the Canon A-1 (which still works), one of my bucket list cameras: Canon F-1N in July 2013, and Canon 's DSLR, EOS-5D III (December 2013).
I married the year that the Voyager space probes were launched. Our kids are the four-legged kind, Beagles; we have competed in obedience and confirmation.
Welcome to DEV!
Thank you.
Great to have your experience here Ralph!
Thank you.
Welcome here 👋
Welcome to DEV. I like photography too. If you want something entirely different I can recommend getting into Large format especially if you have bucket loads of time. It's a nice feeling get back to basics though in hindsight I wish I'd done medium format as an intermediary step.
Hi Daniel,
A 4×5 monorail is one of my "bucket list" cameras. Also on that list, Mamiya 645 and RB67 or RZ67. I bought one of my bucket list cameras in July 2013, Canon F-1N with AE Motor Drive FN and AE Finder FN. I have multiple bucket lists:
Welcome to Dev! Photography is one of my hobbies.
Welcome to DEV ❤️🎉
Yes, NASA is the first which forge the definition of digital twin.
That's awesome!
Hello sir, I want to you learn more from as you old software engineer developer.
Oh my god, that is so nice, I am a young person 13 yo. I am still learning what do you have advice for me? and thank you.
Hello everyone.
Hope you are doing well :).
If you want to learn more about SQL you can check this article my profile.
Heyo Lucas!
Just a heads up that you can embed posts in comments if you wanna link to a specific post. To do so, you just use this syntax for example
{% embed https://dev.to/yet_anotherdev/postgres-concurrency-what-could-go-wrong-part-1-1fmf %}
and it appears like:Postgres Concurrency : What could go wrong (part 1)
Lucas Barret ・ May 18 ・ 4 min read
All this said, you may not have wanted to link to a single post but instead were pointing folks to your profile. If that's the case this also works for profiles —
{% embed https://dev.to/yet_anotherdev %}
makes:Lucas Barret
And then of course, there's also the chance that just didn't wanna do this at all, in which case feel free to just ignore me, haha! 😆
TIL ! Many thanks Michael 🤓
You are very welcome, Lucas! Glad this helped. 🙌
Welcome Lucas here 👋
Thanks Thomas, seems we are both French ! Let's connect whenever you want :D
Oooh 🌱🙌🏼
Hello everyone Just a friendly developer that wants to connect to as much developers as possible

Great to have you Edih!
its Good to be here can I connect with you so we can check out each other's content
Welcome ! ✨
Hello everyone!
I hope this message finds you all in high spirits. Allow me to introduce myself as a DevOps Specialist based in Toronto and proudly a member of the AWS Community Builders program.
Now, let's dive into some fun facts about me:
Firstly, I am an ardent lover of football/soccer. The thrill of the game and the camaraderie it brings truly excites me.
Secondly, I have a deep fascination for IoT (Internet of Things) and the endless possibilities it offers in connecting devices and revolutionizing our daily lives.
Thirdly, I have a strong affinity for the vast world of Big Data. The ability to extract valuable insights and make data-driven decisions is something that captivates me.
And last but not least, let's not forget my mischievous side. I thoroughly enjoy the art of applying and, yes, occasionally "destroying" infrastructures using Terraform. It's like a puzzle that challenges me and brings out my inner explorer.
I'm excited to be part of this community and look forward to engaging with all of you.
Feel free to reach out if you share any of these interests or simply want to connect and chat.
Cheers to a fantastic journey ahead!
Hi folks, hope you're well. According to my profile, I've been a member for 4 years (!) but only just started engaging, due in part to #GithubHack23
Keen to branch out and really get into blog-writing as a whole (if for no other reason than to remind myself of things when I inevitably forget!)
Woot! I'm glad to hear that you're digging the hackathon and that it's pulled ya in closer to the community. 🙂
And hey, never too late to start blogging... you're right that it can be a super handy way to store your knowledge. And really, sometimes writing and explaining something is the best way to hold onto the info — it kinda cements it into your brain!
Definitely agree, and it's great practice for writing documentation as well, but structured in such a way to be open and approachable to anyone. Though that's easier said than done!
Great point! It really does help with those documenting skills.
And I soooo agree with the easier said than done part. You might've seen some posts on flow state out there... I think that is really applicable to writing to. Once the flow of ideas start it's not too bad, but getting into that space of mind can be tough.
Hey, I'm Phil!
I'm software developer turned product manager with a few hobbyist projects on the go - mostly small websites for local organizations and charities. I'm particularly keen on SSR/static websites to keep things nice and speedy but I'm also learning Svelte as I was blown away by Rich Harris' initial demo.
Professionally, I'm the new Senior Product Manager at Forem - so I get to spend my days helping make DEV a better place. I'm always open to ideas and suggestions so feel free to drop me an email at philip[at]forem.com.
Look forward to seeing what everyone gets up to on DEV!
Hey Philip, I'm also software developer who has transition to Product mgt. Currently working as a technical product manager. Its nice having you here. Welcome to devto.
Welcome!
Hi there, I am a semi-retired developer, with 20 years in the banking industry and 14 more in many other areas. Long time Microsoft coder, from C in the 80s, C++ in the 90s and then on to ASP.NET using C#. Consider myself a full-stack developer, have a lot of SQL and BI experience too.
Left my job to pursue a dream of building a web community for musicians and artists, with future connectivity with many other areas of the local music scene. When I can local, I mean "wherever-you-are-in-the-world" local. I recently published the web app in BETA, so if you're a musician anywhere from a beginner to professional, please check out the site.
It's called SoundCheck, have a look! soundcheck12.co/
PS. My latest endeavours are integrating more Azure functionality and the ever-present daily "fun" with GIT. I gotta say being a one-man shop sure helps with branching woes!
Hello all! The name's Vince, a he/him.
I am currently based in Colchester in the UK. My day job is managing 11 people in a software technical support team (2nd/3rd line support) for a company called Civica.
In my spare time, I like to mess around with SBC's like the Raspberry Pi. I like to tinker with things that show! So displays, LED's and the like.
I like stats and graphs, so speedtesting and logging is on thing I do and talk about a LOT!
When I am not sat infront of a computer, I will be wathing Star Trek, Star Gate, NCIS, 9-1-1 or simular type shows.
Finally I do like to take photos of things around me. So I share the best that I take and hide the rest!
According to Midjourney this is what I look like:
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am an engineer interested in robotics, AI and all types of automation. I am mostly a machine head with a background in mechanical and electrical design. I am more involved in programming to make machines work and turn their data into useful artifacts. This looks like a great site. I cannot believe I didn't find it sooner.
Awww yeah! Great to have ya with us here. 🙌
I don't know if you like to write or not, but I would love to see some posts on robotics and engineering.
I'm really into music and like seeing folks work on synthesizers and odd instruments. It's kinda, sorta, maybe engineering related... haha, you're speaking with a Creative Writing major, so I'm not the most technical even though I enjoy having my brain stretch by this stuff.
Anyway, as an example, I really love the YouTube channel LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER where the host builds all sorts of wacky music-making tech... and despite the name, he does do some programming from time to time. For instance, here he is working on a church organ and making it communicate via midi:
Hi everyone. I am a software engineer with about 25 years of experience. Currently working in an primarily Microsoft environment. I use .Net Core, SQL Server, C#, ASP.Net MVC Core, Azure Devops. We do use Vue.js/Typescript/Javascript for our front end & deploy to docker, linux containers. I do have a love for stuff that I can't use on a daily basis like functional programming, golang, rust, ect...
Hello everyone.
I'm a hobbyist C++ developer with just over 2 years of experience. Most of what I've made are experimental projects that I've mostly kept on my host system at home, though I have a few repositories that were uploaded to GitHub over the past couple of years.
I guess my biggest accomplishment so far is doing a fair bit of work on a program called CMakeEasy; as one might guess by the name, it's a program designed to help with CMake - it generates CMakeLists.txt files with string inputs.
Nice to meet you all.
Hey there!
I am a newer software engineer, I consider myself to be a full stack web developer. I mostly work with building software from the ground up using combinations of Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, Django, or a few other languages/framworks.
I am currently in the stage of just building my portfolio and projects for it and getting ready to apply for jobs!
Before I decided to move into the field about a year ago and started this journey, I had a career in restaurant management. I was dang good at it, but it just never felt like it was enough, I just never felt accomplished. But now I can confidently say, Its because I was built for software engineering.
I know I am a junior in the field, but I also love helping others and love learning new things. I find that I have a very natural talent for teaching and hope to one day do some form of education for new devs in the future.
And one fun fact about me is I have two pet rabbits that are named Pesto and Alfredo. They have a lot of personality and always running around my home eating any hanging wires they find. (everything is wireless if possible in my home now.....)
Great to have you Taylor!
I love that! 😅
Hay there, I am a mostly-active blogger (do not get as much time to simply blog of late), for fun and not profit. I delight in building stories to help developers learn new talents or technologies or just to let them know about new opportunities.
Above all, I try to make my writing fun and interesting, whether it’s through imagery or a fun quip.
My work can be found at my main blog here: darkgenesis.zenithmoon.com/
I deal mainly in the areas of Mixed Reality, the technology to make it truly cross-platform and helping others to be successful in it.
Hey Simon!
Nearly a decade ago, I switched from blogging to mainly using Twitter to "be part of the conversation." It's felt more anxious, heated, and "on the outside" in that time. I've been looking to fix that, and DEV rose to the top as the best antidote -- including letting me focus on my work and content, and not managing a blog independently!
Hey everybody!
Just joined here because I want to stay closer to the community. I want to follow subjects about Software Engineering, System Design, Backend Development and this kind of stuff
My name is Davi, I am a backend Software Engineer, married, I have a puppy called Bento and I like to spend time in the computer

Hello! I am excited to join dev.to. With over seven years of experience in software development, system engineering, and technical consultation, I have gained expertise in implementing complex projects, refactoring codes, and creating middleware to deploy clusters to AWS. Having worked with companies such as ThoughtWorks and Sparta Systems, I have deep knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
As a technical SME, I have implemented design patterns, created dashboard setups, and established core architectures through diverse technologies. I have also developed a framework solution and digitalized solutions that reduced manual effort and shut down time of large warehouses.
Hello everyone, I'm a mobile engineer, I already worked with Low-code frameworks, Java/Kotlin for Android, and Swift for IOS, but now I'm focused on Flutter, I'm on way Flutter since 2020. I have some interest in AI, but I confess that I never study anything about this, just read about the concept and how this will over with us kkkkkk, I'm just kidding, or not. I like too to ride with Moto around there and I love pizza.
Hi well I am an active software engineer just gone 50 and still single boo. Professionaly I started in Perl then it went downhill :-). Java then PHP then more Java mico services now am doing Enterprise Integration IBM Datapower, MQ, XSL transformations etc. Found this place while looking for a place to blog about my current Linux adventures that supports making code look nice. Current project for fun at home is building a cluster of compute modules (Turing Pi 2) with Patroni and Postgresl and etcd and the k3s on top. while getting back into Linux Ubuntu 22.04. All configured by Ansible well we use Chef at work wanted to try the other side. On top of that I'll put Java and then Scala and then maybe clojure will see and run a bunch of containers.
For other fun I do photography have a Large format camera as well as Micro four thirds Panasonic. Also like Astronomy more of a follower than a observer though have an iTelescope subscription terribly underutilised. Also play Badminton, Tennis on ocassion and like watching snooker. For health though I do country walking birdwatching.

Hello everyone,
I’m Oluwasegun from Nigeria. I’m a Java developer and I recently started my android development journey with Kotlin. Looking forward to connect and network with y’all.
I will keep this here which I would like to look back to in a couple of years. "I hardly can get any real world project to start, much less to build anything to a stage for test and later for deployment. But I will come back to this in pretty few years from today to celebrate my growth on this Artifact".
Experienced, architect, dev manager and developer with dev experiences in LISP,s, C, C++, Python, Java, JavaScrpt, PHP, Dart, PostgreSQL, Oracle++, MySQL, fire base etc. Used Linux, Windows, Mac, IOS, Android and k8s as platforms and designed data enters using trad HW, VMWare, Azure.
I programmed for a living on Xerox Interlisp/D machines and implemented various rule engines in LISP, C and Java.
I’ve been professionally curious throughout my carrier and that is my best advise - never stop being curious, never tell yourself “this is not for me”.
Currently I’m overseeing large digital transformations and a lot of the dev experience comes in very handy when things needs to get practical.
Played a lot of music in various bands over the years - but have not found one yet in my new home country.

I am a french (the language) teacher.
I need a change and to widen my horizon.
So I begin to learn front-end, maybe more later.
For now, I won't be able to help others, but with the time, my knowledge becoming better, I will be happy to participate actively.
Hi all. I live in Hobart, Tasmania, and I've been retired for almost three years. My last job (my dream job if not for all the office politics) was coding a forum site (hosted by Khoros) using FreeMarker (along with HTML, CSS and JS). My interest in websites started with Netscape, HTML3 and CSS1, and I've loved everything web development ever since. I just wish I was really good at it (sigh) but there's so-o-o-o much out there still to learn. I'm an enthusiastic journeyman with a desire to see compliant, accessible websites rule the world!
I am a beginner software developer addicted to Microsoft technology stack. I have a knowledge of Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and .NET 7.0 developments.
Right now, I am working on learning about Blazor Web Assembly, and make a good full-stack application to share on this platform.
Any advices will be valued.
Hi Arthur!
You must have had such a rich experience getting to see the evolution of programming languages from basic low-level languages to the highly abstracted ones we use today!
I completely agree with your opinions on open source - collaboration is the future!
Hi! I'm a web-developer from France, and have just joined dev.to! I work mainly with Next.js at the moment, but I like working with web frameworks as well as side hobbies such as electronics and DIY smart home products (I've recently explored building an ordering a custom PCB:

I post regularly about web development, electronics and programming in general.
I have a range of interests that vary from software engineering to tribal governance. Most of what I do with respect to software has been in telephony and cryptography. I mostly work in C++, I have maintained gnu packages, and last decade I produced Wickr's secure client software.
Telephony is for me the industry that connects people over distance and time. In telephony I find autonomy, privacy, and survivability all deeply interrelated. The future of telephony remains to me about connecting people as much as about interconnecting technologies.
Howdy, What's up? I'm system engineery student, and i need learn code. thanks in advance and I really appreciate your help. Salu2.
