Entry is simple: Start a thread that is bound to spark a lot of comments. Ask the community to tell a certain kind of story and get lots of comments! Even if these threads aren't always answering the deep questions, they are often great for seeing what the broader community thinks of a topic and are usually a lot of fun!
DEV employees are not eligible for the Big Thread Badge. π
One more thing...
We are now giving away badges for top posts in certain popular tags (programming language tags mostly). We are giving these badges away on Thursday and the first few snuck out this past week. We're giving these ones out on Thursday to diversify the days we reward folks for doing great work.
Tag winners are based on points whereas top seven is based on traffic + reaction points + editorial.

LOVE the idea of top tag posts! As someone who does backend, it seems like the frontend posts are the ones that often end up in the Top 7. For example, this week all but one are frontend posts which is great but I would love more insight into the more popular backend ones π
In the spirit of badges being like laptop stickers it also helps decorate your profile in some of your interests and expertise. π
Now that I think about it, it's also a pretty cool type of visual resumΓ©-building. You are able to show off a diverse range of topics you have written about with excellence.
